<B2IA> (ysei_-_ppc) and there
<B2IA> (AGMS) Hi ysei_-_ppc.
<B2IA> (ysei_-_ppc) broken-PC is down , then ,
<B2IA> (AGMS) Still going with BeShare here, though most of the action is on IRC now and the Haiku forum. So there's a bridge between BeShare and IRC chat.

<B2IA> (AGMS) If you're still using PPC, ysei_-_ppc, there's a BeShare 3.04 version for it, look inside BeShare_3.04.zip.
<B2IA> (AGMS) But yes, this seems to be the last BeShare server still running fairly continuously.

<WildKeccak> Bug #18458 needs better reporting and overlaps with #16406. What is new is that the second slider, the one that says when to turn off the screen, is ignored.
<WildKeccak> apparently.
<B2IA> (AGMS) Was there ever a PineappleNews for PPC? Hmmm, I think not.
<B2IA> (AGMS) SeaMonkey may do news, don't know if there is a PPC version of it.

<dryphb> Hello! I can't get the OS up on my ThinkPad Yoga 370
<dryphb> It's burnt to a DVD, but I can't boot from it
OscarL has joined #haiku
<OscarL> The_Ringmaster: yes, totally possible. Regarding the boot loading, depends on your intended boot mode BIOS/MBR vs (U)EFI.
<OscarL> If using UEFI..., better follow this doc, as I have no experience with newer machines: https://www.haiku-os.org/guides/uefi_booting/
<The_Ringmaster> I do have a uefi laptop (nitro 5)
<OscarL> If using BIOS/MBR (legacy/CSM, whatever it is called on newer PCs now)... you can install the MBR boot loader code in your newly installed USB stik, by simply start "BootManager" from the Terminal app. The procedure should be straight forward enough.
<OscarL> and also, you can try with the different options from the boot loader: https://www.haiku-os.org/docs/userguide/en/bootloader.html
<PulkoMandy> you don't need to install BootManager, if you create the partition table using DriveSetup it will already set up a valid MBR for you
<PulkoMandy> BootManager is only useful if you want a menu to boot from multiple different partitions
<The_Ringmaster> I don't have bootmanager as a command
<The_Ringmaster> unless it isn't there by default
<OscarL> case sensitive: "> BootManager". But read what PulkoMandy said. And also, remember that for UEFI the procedure is different (see the linked guide).

<callumaw_> Alright, it's getting up to the rocket, but not past it. I'm using a USB Blu-Ray drive, if this helps
<callumaw_> It's a nightly, so maybe that's part of it?
<OscarL> maybe. Have you already tried with the different safe-mode options from the boot loader as suggested here: https://www.haiku-os.org/docs/userguide/en/bootloader.html#troubleshooting ?
<callumaw_> I haven't a clue how to access 'em
<OscarL> you're booting in UEFI or BIOS/Legacy mode?
<OscarL> if using UEFI... hit the spacebar repeatedly while your PC is booting (after POST, before any icon's show up). That should work also for BIOS mode, but there, you can simply hold the SHIFT key down during boot.
<OscarL> BTW, that info is already on the top of the pace I've linked.
<OscarL> *page
<callumaw_> Oh, sorry, I'm on UEFI 1st, Legacy 2nd
<OscarL> Depending on the hardware, sometimes selecting "Use fail-safe graphics driver" is all what's needed. Other times, disabling SMP helps. Sometimes is disabling ACPI... hard to tell upfront.
<The_Ringmaster> for uefi setup, I need to manually create that folder structure in the efiboot partition?

<callumaw_> If it helps, I've an intel core i5 and 8GB RAM

<Reinhilde> Your Chromebook... has an IBM PC/AT keyboard?
<phcoder> @Reinhilde: well probably emulated by EC but who cares? Linux uses AT driver on it and it works well
<Reinhilde> phcoder: Good. I was about to call the paranormal unit.
<phcoder> @augiedoggie: yes, that's it. But NVMe works perfectly for me. Trackpad is elan as well. As for audio it's Intel SOF and AFAICT haiku had no driver for it whatsoever
<phcoder> How do I get kernel log?

<phcoder> I think I found a possible culprit for keyboard problem: haiku PS2 driver doesn't drain port before resetting it. So in case of Chromebook it gets last keypresses instead of reply
<phcoder> How do I update kernel addons after compiling? Which hpkg should I replace?
<waddlesplash> haiku.hpkg
<waddlesplash> just build it directly
<waddlesplash> example: jam -q -jN @nightly-raw haiku.hpkg
<waddlesplash> pkgman install path/to/built/haiku.hpkg
<waddlesplash> phcoder: that sounds like a pretty good fix though, may fix a bunch of other issues at the same time!
mmu_man has quit [Ping timeout: 480 seconds]
<phcoder> @waddlesplash: other PS2 drivers do it. I think libpayload, grub2 and Linux all do it. Can I just replace some file? I'm on Linux now but mounted haiku with bfs_fuse
<waddlesplash> phcoder: you can overwrite just the haiku-...hpkg in /system/packages
<waddlesplash> but you have to be careful doing this, it can sometimes cause incorrect dependencies if versions changed, hence the pkgman method is more reliable
<waddlesplash> as it checks that
<waddlesplash> phcoder: if you change the filename it won't work, you will need to delete the "administrative" folder, or edit the activated packages file to get the new name
<waddlesplash> you have to use the filename already in /system/packages, or do either of those other thinfs
<waddlesplash> things
