<steev> srinik: fwiw, i tried launching vivaldi (it's chrome based), and searching for "youtube jellyroll life" then pulling up the music video and as soon as the video loaded... the static
<steev> i should say started to load - the dmesg spam when the codec goes nuts seems to kill performance
<steev> my kernel logfile is 26MB

<steev> srinik: and testing your way - booted, launched chrome, as soon as youtube's webpage loaded... the static - http://sprunge.us/B0LfDf is the kern.log - seems like maybe something in soundwire? around line 619, it complains that the link status *isn't* disconnected, and then the next line errors saying the link failed to connect?
<steev> i'm changing up those messages in that if else, since they both seem to print the same error and i can't tell which one is throwing it
<steev> i'm assuming we're throwing it in the ! clk_stop but who knows
<steev> oh, we're actually in the else :D

<Dylanger> Does anyone know how to have mpv use v4l2m2m-copy with a MediaTek MT8195 based hardware video decoder?
<jenneron[m]> Dylanger: first of all try ffplay -vcodec h264_v4l2m2m file.mp4
<jenneron[m]> for mpv use --hwdec=v4l2m2m-copy, but it may segfault on recent versions because of upstream bug
<jenneron[m]> make sure video decoder is supported at all, it is not supported for mt8183
<Dylanger> Hm, can I list all supported vcodecs?
<Dylanger> That's output from v4l2-ctl --all
<Dylanger> So the driver is there
<Dylanger> I just think there mightn't be any userland support for MediaTek based hw vdec?
<Dylanger> This bad boi supports AV1 dec too
<jenneron[m]> Dylanger: players with ffmpeg should work
<Dylanger> [vp9_v4l2m2m @ 0xffff80051b40] Could not find a valid device
<Dylanger> [vp9_v4l2m2m @ 0xffff80051b40] can't configure decoder
<Dylanger> Hm, it can't seem to find the decoder
<jenneron[m]> chromium could work too, but it requests "h264" codec instead of "h264_v4l2m2m", there is no way to set it
<Dylanger> ^ is a super nice issue trying to get V4L2 working on Chromium
<jenneron[m]> Dylanger: your decoder may work only with v4l2-request, not with v4l2m2m
<Dylanger> Ultimately this is what I'd want, but for now I just want to see ffplay or mpv work
<jenneron[m]> try some gstreamer based player like clapper
<Dylanger> ah, I'll give it a go

<Dylanger> I think it's having trouble detecting the decoder
