clever, weston on fbdev does indeed do software compositing and it can tear. The fbdev-backend is also something to be removed at some point, especially as DRM KMS drivers make legacy fbdev drivers completely unnecessary.

clever, once you do get DRM KMS driver working, Weston can still use Pixman to composite if you want. It may be faster than software OpenGL, which should also work I think.
