<tokyovigilante> Just to confirm, should I expect to be able to get USB gadget ethernet working on my board?
<tokyovigilante> Been unsuccessful so far but not sure if its a HW limitation, just unimplemented, or PEBKAC

<Jookia> fi you can get fel working you probably should be able to. not sure

<Jookia> looks like using builtin fdt in a regular boot flow isn't possible with FIT images, and i can't just use the same device tree source code across linux and u-boot because the includes are different

<Jookia> oh, OF_UPSTREAM fixes that

<Jookia> the pwm driver in linux expects all data about a channel and its state to be passed as a struct... i guess we're doing it the OLD FASHIONED WAY

<apritzel> Jookia: sunxi doesn't support OF_UPSTREAM yet, and doing so would break compatibility with kernels before v5.13
<Jookia> i mean ... WorksForMe
<Jookia> but i'm on 6.10
<apritzel> there are more than one user, I hear ;-)
<apritzel> but what is the exact problem with copying in the Linux DTs into the U-Boot tree?
<Jookia> oh, there's no problem after using OF_UPSTREAM
<apritzel> yes, you have to adjust some paths, but that's what I do every few weeks or so
<apritzel> and it only affects some SoCs
<Jookia> in my case it works and i can use linux dts on u-boot
<Jookia> so i'll work on that cleanup in my buildroot eventually
<apritzel> the idea is to have your DT reviewed in Linux, then this gets copied to the U-Boot tree, which is the only DTB you will ever need to use
<Jookia> yeah, i like that idea
<apritzel> this is what we do atm, with the only caveat being that the sync is manual: https://lore.kernel.org/u-boot/20240424001808.14388-2-andre.przywara@arm.com/
<apritzel> the D1/T113-s3 is not affected by the R-INTC compatibility problem, though it suffers from the include path problem
<Jookia> yeah
<apritzel> tokyovigilante: USB peripheral support should work in general, and I definitely used that - even with multiple gadgets at once - before
<apritzel> tokyovigilante: I just cannot say how much testing I did on the H616, specifically
<apritzel> tokyovigilante: setting it up the modern Linux way (using gadgetfs) isn't trivial (and "modprobe g_ether" is legacy by now), but once you wrap your head around it, it's very powerful and can be nicely scripted
<apritzel> (you can ignore the systemd part)
<Jookia> yeah i do that
