<steev> bamse: so, will the 3rd patch paul sent not be included then?
<bamse> steev: i didn't spot that...
<steev> bamse: you did because you replied to it :P
<bamse> steev: was waiting for him to send something, but then i read his last reply and i thought he said that we should just give up
<robclark> fwiw I eventually realized that paul's patches where getting flagged as spam for me
<steev> i thought he was asking for... jagan (sp?) to chime in
<bamse> robclark: as i was writing my commit message i realized that the new form dsi { panel { }; }; wouldn't work for us (i mean the non-dp case)
<steev> tegra and ingenic have chimed in that it fixes their issues :(
<bamse> robclark: because we typically put the opp-table in there and 'o' sorts before most panels
<bamse> steev: the same thread that i replied to?
<steev> yes
<steev> in the link above
<steev> "Jagan, can you prove some insight on why this mechanism was needed in the first
<steev> place and if we can get rid of it without breaking any active binding?"
<steev> i mean, that patch does fix things for c630 and i was gonna send the t-b but then i saw you'd replied saying it still is broken for sc8180x
<robclark> bamse: still any solution that relies on alphabetical ordering to get lucky enough to work isn't great
<bamse> robclark: i would need to empty my head and look at the logic once more to convince me that the latest proposal will actually work
<bamse> robclark: i don't fancy the fact that we went from a trivial nice patch to 3 layers of band aid
<robclark> we are at -rc3 so revert-and-try-again-next-time isn't ever really a wrong answer.. but I hadn't seen the latest patch so not sure if that could work
<bamse> robclark: the last patch seems to be okay...
<bamse> i've not yet tested it, but the band aid logic seems resaonable to me
<bamse> robclark: it no longer suffer from the ordering problem of opp-table vs panel
<robclark> so, pretty sure I tried https://patchwork.freedesktop.org/patch/481135/?series=102330&rev=1 .. but would have to check tomorrow since it was on my workstation in office.. if there is something newer I can try it tomorrow

<steev> bamse: should i bother sending tested by when maxime has already applied to fixes?

<bamse> steev: doesn't sounds like there's a reason to do so, if the patch is up you may reply to my reverts and inform me that the fix merged solves your problem so you don't think my reverts are needed anymore
<bamse> steev: that will make sure that the maintainer(s) can pop them off their todo list
<steev> no no, the reverts are needed
<bamse> even with the third fix?
<bamse> maybe i'm just lost?
<steev> no, i removed that since it wasn't actually committed anywhere just posted, and your comment that things are still broken with that patch on other things
