<leif> I played around with systemd-boot (for the first time ever) today and finally managed to get working on my M1 macbook running Fedora.
<leif> The thing I don't understand is that the kernel and initramfs image need to be on the esp. So should the efi partition ideally be mounted to /boot ??

<tpw_rules> that's how nixos does it
<tpw_rules> oh, someone doesn't realize the impermanence of irc

<leif> That makes the most sense. Otherwise, you'd have to script something out. Going to play around with it a bit more. I'd be nice if there was some way to change boot menu resolution and fonts.

<tpw_rules> there is console-mode but i've never tried it before. the point of systemd-boot is to just boot, not be all fancy like grub

<leif> I tried every option with console-mode to no avail --but it's not a big deal tbh. I'm sort of warming up to systemd-boot, mostly for it's simplicity. There's just way too much going on with grub...
<tpw_rules> yeah, console-mode just uses uefi services and idk what u-boot supports on that front

<Glanzmann> bluetail: If you want to create a bootable system from the tar archive, you either need to put the tar archive in a initrd, and create a symlink for init, or you need to use the (debian) live system to create the root partition and extract it to it, than adopt /etc/fstab, install grub or your favourite efi boot manager.
<bluetail> Glanzmann I choose the latter. Its far easier.
<bluetail> Does the first imply you can boot from a tar?
