<daniels>
yeah, definitely having newer is helpful for DX testing
<alatiera>
supposedly paravirtualization works
<alatiera>
however I had issues getting hyper-v to work fine under kvm on the current runner
<daniels>
ok, I'll send you a Server 2022 DC key
<daniels>
mm, we just used non-hyper-v because HV had some insane setup time when we started
<alatiera>
so atm we can only run 2019 containers which goes through the app process backend
<daniels>
right, process isolation was roughly a million times quicker :P
<alatiera>
yea that too
<daniels>
I didn't realise you were running it under KVM - not bare metal?
<alatiera>
the host is bare metal on htz, but the windows instance is a vm
<daniels>
is there any advantage to that?
<daniels>
I wonder if running under KVM is part of the instability we've seen lately
<alatiera>
mostly that we (tpm and I) know how to manage linux hosts and vms as opposed being windows admins
<daniels>
mm
<alatiera>
also in theory hyper-v under kvm can be made to work
<alatiera>
though I spend a couple of hours looking at this some weeks ago and there were some obscure errors
<alatiera>
might need newer qemu than we have or different config
<alatiera>
if we get paravirtualization any server license should be able to figure out and switch to the hyper-v backend if needed
<alatiera>
anyhow for now we can go with one and one and see from there

it's been running under vm ever since it was set up, but the instabilities only happened recently, so don't know if they're necessarily related
