<cyrozap> Hi, all. While searching for docs on some stuff online, I noticed that a bunch of freedesktop.org pages still reference Freenode. For example: https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/freedesktop/freedesktop/-/wikis/home https://wiki.freedesktop.org/nouveau/ https://wiki.freedesktop.org/nouveau/FAQ/ https://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/Games/
<cyrozap> More can be found with this search query: https://duckduckgo.com/?q=site%3Afreedesktop.org+freenode
<cyrozap> Most of those links seem to be wiki pages, which (I assume) are publicly editable, but it would be a bit of a pain to go through each one and manually edit them, so perhaps whoever admins the site could run a script to find/replace Freenode with OFTC? Since seeing Freenode all over the place can be a little confusing for people who have never joined these channels before.
<cyrozap> Also, the channel logs page title still mentions irc.freenode.net. For example: https://people.freedesktop.org/~cbrill/dri-log/index.php?channel=freedesktop&date=2022-05-19

<Venemo> hey guys, how can I get back this commit in my local git repo? https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/mesa/mesa/-/commit/064f5172f1b3264202b77c690241a7839c756b41 unfortunately i lost it, the hash is no longer recognized
<daniels> ^
<daniels> (accessible from options -> download patch in the top right)
<Venemo> isn't there a way to just check it out locally?
<daniels> not if it's not accessible from any branch ref
<Venemo> it had about 40 commits which were never merged upstream. I refactored it recently but forgot to make a branch of the old version
<daniels> it's not anywhere in your reflog?
<pendingchaos> maybe you can temporarily tag it?
<Venemo> I'm afraid I ran 'git prune' sometime after I did that
<Venemo> so it's not available locally
<Venemo> worst case, I can download the patch file for all of them one by one :D
<daniels> go to repository (left-hand menu) -> branches -> new branch
<daniels> just tried it and you now have a branch called 'asdf'
<Venemo> it worked for me too. I wasn't aware the GUI could create a branch like that. thanks daniels you're the best!
<daniels> np, it was pendingchaos's idea tbf :)
<daniels> I was thinking of going to materialise a branch through the CLI, didn't even think of web UI
<Venemo> It would seem that 'git fetch' doesn't fetch dangling commits like this
<vsyrjala> 'git fetch <repo> <sha>' doesn't work ?
<daniels> it does not, no

<vsyrjala> :(
<Venemo> I didn't try that, only git fetch repo

<Venemo> Anyway, it turns out this old version suffers from the same bug that I'm struggling with now 🙄
<daniels> good news - past you is not smarter than current you
<daniels> congrats!
<Venemo> 🤣
<Venemo> Yeah. I hoped past me would save me now, but no 😁

anddam has joined #freedesktop
<anddam> howdy, how can I assign a specific desktop file to be default for a file extension?
<anddam> case in point I installed AbiWord from GNOME suite, it saves *.abw but those are recognized by "xdg-query mime filetype" as text/xml
<anddam> now I'd like to have only .abw files opened with abiword
<anddam> is this a shortcoming of the package? I see /usr/share/mime/{application,packages} could be used for this?
<anddam> x/?$/d
<anddam> ohh freedesktop.org.xml
<anddam> 7406: <mime-type type="application/x-abiword">
<anddam> why doesn't "query filetype" recognize it then, bad magic numbers?
