it's already fixed, because annoyingly it's completely transient :\
<alyssa>
?
<daniels>
the 503 received from s3.fd.o isn't a permanent condition, your job was just unlucky
<daniels>
I just retried and it was fine
<alyssa>
a dozen jobs in the same MR were unhappy then :(
<daniels>
yeah, they all ran at the same time right
<alyssa>
presumably
<daniels>
I've got most of a branch prepared with a fix for the download side, to make it attempt to download for ~10min in the face of any and every error condition; I think we need to do the same to upload

DavidHeidelberg[m]: I restarted the job to give your MR a chance to merge (since everything else was green), but there seems to be an issue with one of your runners: https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/mesa/mesa/-/jobs/32871316
<DavidHeidelberg[m]>
thanks eric_engestrom
<DavidHeidelberg[m]>
Merged, I was lucky you saw it :)
<mupuf>
the other one... has been plagging us since the beginning. Its reproduction rate is super low
<mupuf>
the mcli issue I also saw once before, about a month ago
<mupuf>
so I would say, let's wait for another issue before just disabling
<mupuf>
and in the mean time, I'll address the mcli issue... which isn't hard to work around
<mupuf>
DavidHeidelberg[m]: what do you think?
<DavidHeidelberg[m]>
mupuf: oh, then it's fine :)
<DavidHeidelberg[m]>
just too concentrated issue at one moment :D
<mupuf>
yeah, I 100% agree that this is suspicious
<mupuf>
yesterday, we were running low on RAM on this gateway... but I don't think it impacted the navi21 runners
<mupuf>
(we had 3GB left, and 32GB of swap)
<mupuf>
maybe I'll reboot the gateway over the weekend
<DavidHeidelberg[m]>
mupuf: have you heard about our saviour zswap? :D :D :D
<mupuf>
ROFL, you are indeed pushing a lot for it :D
<mupuf>
luckily for us, the hardware we have doesn't come with soldered RAM
<mupuf>
so... we were generous when we specced the hardware
<DavidHeidelberg[m]>
so 256 or 512G of RAM?
<mupuf>
ROFL, for CI, it would be a little too much, no?
<mupuf>
64GB on the gateway, and 32GB for the runners
<DavidHeidelberg[m]>
that's nice :)
<DavidHeidelberg[m]>
different topic: we thinking about adding split debug symbols, distributing the debug aside of minio and if the process crashes, using coredump and split debug from artifacts, what you think about it?
<mupuf>
the gateway doesn't need more than 8GB, and ultimately will fit in 4GB when we finally find the time to work on the gitlab runner (to make running on bare metal transparent from gitlab's PoV)
<mupuf>
sounds excellent!
<DavidHeidelberg[m]>
mupuf: does it host caches (traces & stuff)?
<mupuf>
yes, it does cache as much as possible. Container images, traces
<mupuf>
and soon, the kernel/initramfs artifacts
<DavidHeidelberg[m]>
well, then if the memory is big enough, it may not even read from drive :)
<mupuf>
lol, yeah, but not sure I care about that ;)
<mupuf>
we use NVME drives, because they don't cost much more for the sizes we need, so speed *really* isn't an issue
<mupuf>
gigabit, on the other hand...
<mupuf>
but since traces are also cached on the runners (stored encrypted using fscrypt), it is only an issue for the first run on every runner
<DavidHeidelberg[m]>
wow. isn
<DavidHeidelberg[m]>
't encrypting traces too much overkill (like I understand possible reason, but still)
<mupuf>
Well, if we didn't do that, any other job on these runners could read them and send them to gitlab via the artifacts
<mupuf>
(the runners don't have access to the internet)
<mupuf>
and it would take a couple of jobs to exfiltrate all the traces...
<mupuf>
but still! At least we can say we took reasonable steps to prevent unwanted access
<eric_engestrom>
DavidHeidelberg[m]: yeah, I keep being annoyed at this
<eric_engestrom>
+1 for the feature request :)

<mupuf>
DavidHeidelberg[m]: yes, doing it now :)
<eric_engestrom>
DavidHeidelberg[m]: I did a quick search in the code and it looks like this is the code that picks which job status is shown as the stage status:
<alyssa>
16:49 < eric_engestrom> there's no "inactive account deletion" policy as far as I know, so it would be a bit awkward to delete that one just for the vanity username
<alyssa>
16:49 < eric_engestrom> but on the other hand, I completely agree with you :]
