jernej: what is the reason for h6/h616/etc not having u-boot/simplefb support?
<Bellamy>
how do i properly use crust firmware

libv: because no one ever bothered to send any patches. I think there are patches somewhere for R40 support, which is half way to the H6, IIUC.
<apritzel>
libv: We did some preparation lately to integrate other DEs more easily, so if you want to have a go: be our guest

I would very much like to see H6 and H616 supported, but it's not my area of expertise, and there are higher priority items on my list
<apritzel>
so I am happy to review and test (and merge!)
<jernej>
R40 needs only TCON TOP driver, H6 needs TCON TOP and new variant in HDMI driver, H616 needs TCON TOP, another variant in HDMI driver (different as H6) and new DE version support
<jernej>
In any case, I'm not interested working on that. My original contribution was made just to learn basics before I started working on Linux driver.
<jernej>
it also turns out that U-Boot Linux handover isn't always smooth (seen EDID readout issues on H5), so I just disabled U-Boot display driver for LibreELEC.
<jernej>
oh, A83T would need another variant in HDMI driver yet again

jernej, apritzel (who dropped off): thanks for the info
<libv>
the u-boot wiki page just says "NO"

wigyori: for Linux? is there any particular problem? IIUC it should work already, just needs to be enabled in the DT of a board that actually implements that

apritzel: yes, on linux. that's what i thought as well that it just needs to be enabled, but looks like i've hit something :)

one board with rmii and an icplus ip101gr phy - phy is detected and (seems to be) brought up, but link doesn't come up
<wigyori>
on another board with rgmii and a yt8531s phy, i can't get it to detect the phy
<wigyori>
a russian forum suggests that a soft reset is required at init for the mac - but i'm either doing it wrong, or something else is needed too

wigyori: are your PHYs powered properly? That seems to be a nasty problem on some boards

apritzel: unsure at this point for the board with the yt8531s
<apritzel>
wigyori: there are boards (like the Orange Pi 3) with more complex power up sequence requirements, so the PHY won't reset correctly, even though the power rails are on
<apritzel>
(though this is somewhat rare, and probably not the problem here, given the simplicity of T113 boards and PMICs)
<wigyori>
apritzel: yeah, probably it's something else - found a testpoint around the phy which has 3.3v when booted with the sdk u-boot, and none when booting with upstream (with my board patches)
<apritzel>
ah, that's a good lead ...
<wigyori>
the interesting thing is that in the sdk u-boot, ethernet is not even enabled
<apritzel>
wigyori: which is very common for vendor U-Boots, they typically don't bother with Ethernet or USB
<wigyori>
nah, these test points are for RGMII-RXD3 and RGMII-TXCK
<wigyori>
they're on PG9 and PG3, and configured for emac
