ChanServ changed the topic of #panfrost to: Panfrost - FLOSS Mali Midgard & Bifrost - Logs https://oftc.irclog.whitequark.org/panfrost - <macc24> i have been here before it was popular
<icecream95> I'd better get back to RE then

<anarsoul> icecream95: s/RK3588/valhall :)
<anarsoul> $300 for SBC though... ouch
<anarsoul> but performance is impressive
<anarsoul> however the specs say that memory interface is only 16bit wide :(
<steev> FeX gets a shout out HdkR
<alyssa> steev: literally who
<steev> HdkR is one of (the only?) developer of FeX-EMU
<steev> from the link above
<alyssa> HdkR: who r u again
<steev> i should remember his name, but i'm bad at real names
<alyssa> i've only known u 4 like 3 years, v easy to forget
<steev> i've been at my job for 9 years... and still call my boss by his nickname, not his real name
<HdkR> steev: Huh wha? I'm doing moving tasks, what's happening?
<HdkR> nNice
<HdkR> steev: We have 3-5 people working on FEX depending on the mood
<steev> HdkR: ah, they just mention FeX in the march update for pine64
<HdkR> That's pretty awesome
<HdkR> Looking forward to that panvk DXVK support for the quartzpro64
<steev> will also be on the... rock5? i guess, i don't remember what name radxa are calling it
<HdkR> Right, same RK3588
<HdkR> I've ordered like four of those or something
<anarsoul> I really wonder why they keep using 16bit memory interface :( basically it gets only a quarter of memory bandwidth of a regular x86 board
<HdkR> anarsoul: 16-bit per channel, should still be 64bit total
<robmur01> pins = package size = board area = $$$
<anarsoul> HdkR: x86 has 64bit per channel
<HdkR> of course
<HdkR> but saying 16-bit without quad channel is as misleading at saying quad channel without 32-bit :D
<anarsoul> robmur01: yeah, but it's their high-perf CPU, so it's expected to be $$$
<HdkR> eh, RK3588 is midrange at best now
<anarsoul> hm, is it?
<HdkR> If it was released two years ago when it was announced it would have been upper high-end
<HdkR> upper-mid to high*
<anarsoul> HdkR: do they have anything better?
<robmur01> yup, the embedded/stb/tablet/etc. market for a ~$60 chip is not quite PC motherboards where needing 8-10 layers to fan out from a ~1000-pin BGA is acceptable
<HdkR> anarsoul: Nothing higher end from Rockchip no
<HdkR> At least announced
<robmur01> oh, apparently my exaggerations are underexaggerated... it's already a BGA1088 package as it is :O
<HdkR> robmur01: Just put HBM on package and route it directly to the SoC. No need to route through the board then ;)
<robmur01> HdkR: $2000 Pinebook Air when?
<anarsoul> robmur01: heh, I wish :)

<HdkR> robmur01: Only $2000? I'm sure if we stick some X2-Next cores in there to get fed by HBM it could go higher.
<HdkR> Also a big honking Mali I guess :D

<robmur01> the real question is, will I hold out and wait for mainline kernel support to mature and CSF support in Panfrost, or will I cave and buy RK3588 just for the sake of the SMMUs?
<icecream95> robmur01: The userspace side of CSF is already mostly REd, so it maybe won't be long until you can use it with kbase at least...

<jekstrand> bbrezillon: Where are we at on panfrost secondaries?
<jekstrand> bbrezillon: Are you stuck waiting on me or the other way around?
<alyssa> deadlock
<macc24> damn, if only there was a way to code without anyone else
<HdkR> Don't worry, I've got Bobby Vinton's song always available
