ChanServ changed the topic of #panfrost to: Panfrost - FLOSS Mali Midgard + Bifrost + Valhall - Logs https://oftc.irclog.whitequark.org/panfrost - I don't know anything about WSI. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

<hays> people seem to be using the new driver with 5.10 kernels... how are they doing that?
<hays> (vendor kernels)
<daniels> hays: most of them I believe are not actually using the new upstream driver but an unsupported downstream forked version which uses Arm's kernel driver rather than the DRM one
<hays> yeah i know about that--but i see bug reports
<hays> so i was curious if we had a backport that was suitable for testing and sending in reports of issues
<daniels> yeah, that downstream driver is not at all supported by us and never will be
<daniels> but the good news is that the real one is under development :)
<daniels> it's currently in bbrezillon's linux/mesa branches on gitlab.fd.o, but please beware that it is under _very_ heavy development, and as such bug reports aren't useful at this stage
<daniels> fixes are definitely useful, but if you run into something that doesn't work, you can assume that it will be fixed as development proceeds

<hays> daniels: do you know of a way to get the kernel driver working in the 5.10 vendor kernel?
<hays> I think I would need to that to test and am very interested to do so as I am developer for a project that will use this and am currently on the mali drivers
<mntirc> i don't think that's possible as there will be pancsf specific things in the kernel
<hays> yes, in the kernel
<hays> there is a kernel piece, mesa piece, and then the blob
<hays> im pretty sure I see the kernel fork https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/bbrezillon/linux/-/tree/pancsf
<hays> but nothing in 2 months can't be right for the mesa piece
<daniels> it is right, the original commit dates are just off
<daniels> I’m afraid the only way back to 5.10 is either to forward-port your device support forward to upstream, or backport most of DRM back there
<macc24> daniels: most of drm?
<hays> daniels: which branch?
<hays> daniels: ok--so i guess what im hearing i that those bug reports were filed by people running panfork
