Accessing this mode on Xiaomi devices needs a special Account from Xiaomi which means that you can't easily flash the phone without it

Apart from the risks you get when installing a custom ROM, the only additional risk is that you could set the regulators up wrong and fry your phone. But that is very unlikely to happen
