Hi, I just installed kernel 6.6.0-1004-apple-arm from ppa:john-cabaj/apple-arm and mesa 24.0~pre20240228-0asahi3.23.10 & libdrm 2.4.120-2asahi1.23.10 from ppa:eslerm/asahi-testing
<kaazoo>
No graphical problems so far. https://webglsamples.org/aquarium/aquarium.html works nicely in firefox-trunk. Only the default firefox based on snap falls back to software rendering, as the bundled mesa in snap is too old.
<tobhe[m]>
thanks for testing!
<tobhe[m]>
good to know
<tobhe[m]>
so I'll start with the snap and then eventually update the rest
<kaazoo>
Is there already an updated gnome-42-2204 snap package with recent mesa?
<kaazoo>
'snap info gnome-42-2204' only shows '0+git.3b09a51' for all asahi channels.
<kaazoo>
which is from last year
<kaazoo>
Probably I should just switch to non-snap firefox to make things easier.
<tobhe[m]>
nope, working on that
<kaazoo>
OK, thanks

I had the volume thing again today, where the audio level couldn't be changed. I think I know what it is. If you plug in an external audio device (mixer) then unplug it, the audio system gets wedged. Will try and reproduce again and get logs.
<popey[m]>
Only happens every other wednesday, after we do podcast recording (the next day when I wake my laptop up)

I had the same problem a couple of times. In the Gnome settings the output device wasn't called 'MacBook Pro J414 Speakers' anymore, but some default 'Speakers - Built-in Audio' . I guess the virtual stereo speaker configuration got lost in pipewire or something like that. Volume couldn't be set anymore.
<popey[m]>
Ah! Not just me then! :D
<popey[m]>
Ok, I'll boot to a clean setup and file an issue, thanks!
<kaazoo>
While trying to find out which service / process to restart to fix it the loud beep when you hit tab or cursors in the terminal was so annoying that I gave up and rebooted, which fixed it.
<popey[m]>
Ok, looking back to 23rd Feb when I last mentioned it in here, my session went pop which 'solved' the problem for me :)
<kaazoo>
I just tried to provoke the problem by selecting an USB output device as default speaker and unplugging it, but 5 times this worked as expected. It switches automatically to the 'MacBook Pro J414 Speakers' and volume control still works. as well.
<popey[m]>
ok, gonna try

thanks kaazoo and tobhe

(I always clean install upgrades and run sway, and haven't run into sound issues, yet 🤞)
