<john-cabaj[m]>
tobhe I have a new 6.10 based kernel ready. Do you know why it wouldn't show up as upgradeable package if I add the additional repository?
tobhe[m] has joined #ubuntu-asahi
<tobhe[m]>
nope
<tobhe[m]>
ah, because the other ppa is pinned
<john-cabaj[m]>
Is there an easy way to undo that and try again
<tobhe[m]>
you might need to pin yours with the same prio, check /etc/apt/preferences.d
<john-cabaj[m]>
All I see there is ubuntu-pro-esm-apps and ubuntu-pro-esm-infra
<tobhe[m]>
no /etc/apt/preferences.d/ubuntu-asahi.pref ?
<tobhe[m]>
what does $ apt policy | grep asahi say
<john-cabaj[m]>
That's under /etc/apt/preferences.d/preferences.d/ubuntu-asahi.pref
<john-cabaj[m]>
It's still noble, so I wouldn't expect there to be an issue and 6.8 --> 6.10 should be an upgrade
<tobhe[m]>
apt info -a linux-apple-arm show it
<tobhe[m]>
might just be a dep from the meta package issue?
<john-cabaj[m]>
apple-arm?
<john-cabaj[m]>
Should be asahi-arm now..
<tobhe[m]>
i think you build both
<john-cabaj[m]>
It's a transitional package I guess
<tobhe[m]>
installing them directly via $ sudo apt install linux-asahi-arm=6.10.0.1001.1 linux-image-asahi-arm=6.10.0.1001.1 linux-headers-asahi-arm=6.10.0.1001.1 seems to work
<john-cabaj[m]>
Right, but you shouldn't have to do that
<tobhe[m]>
we might need to change the ubuntu-asahi meta dependency to linux-asahi-arm
<tobhe[m]>
not sure why that would make a difference but let's see
<tobhe[m]>
that's not it
<john-cabaj[m]>
Hmm..
<tobhe[m]>
but maybe this is just my pinning interfering again
<tobhe[m]>
pushing the update to ubuntu-asahi-next anyway
<john-cabaj[m]>
Manually installing debs and everything worked fine
allmazz has quit [Quit: allmazz]
<tobhe[m]>
I didn't want to do that because I'm not sure how easy it would be to get back to a broken state
<tobhe[m]>
probably just reinstalling
<john-cabaj[m]>
I didn't install them from the PPA, just linux-image*.deb and linux-modules*.deb
<john-cabaj[m]>
Then uninstalled with no issues
<tobhe[m]>
ok, I had another local pinning issue
<tobhe[m]>
it now seems to work
<tobhe[m]>
maybe wait for the meta package
<tobhe[m]>
now on to debugging what copy went wrong for your pinning config
<john-cabaj[m]>
I’ll have a look later. Have to get some dinner and stuff.
