<tobhe[m]>
update packages to get the new ubuntu-asahi from official and see if that works
<john-cabaj[m]>
No package updates yet
<tobhe[m]>
is ubuntu-asahi installed?
<tobhe[m]>
you might have removed that by accident at some point. happened to me before when i experimented with kernels
<john-cabaj[m]>
Hmm, not installed. No idea why..
<john-cabaj[m]>
Still, no further updates after installing that
<tobhe[m]>
and did you copy the preferences.d config to the right place previously?
<john-cabaj[m]>
No, I didn’t touch still. Still has the goofy path.
<tobhe[m]>
ok, weird
<tobhe[m]>
because if you did you would have had to add the other ppa
<tobhe[m]>
for me ubuntu-asahi installed and ppa pinned works
<tobhe[m]>
what does apt-policy say?
<john-cabaj[m]>
It has a priority of 1001
<tobhe[m]>
aha, then it is pinned
<tobhe[m]>
try adding prio 1001 for yours too
<john-cabaj[m]>
That did it
<john-cabaj[m]>
I’ll copy you release
<john-cabaj[m]>
s/you/ti/
<john-cabaj[m]>
s/you/to/
<tobhe[m]>
do we need a new mesa?
<john-cabaj[m]>
Hmm, not sure.
<john-cabaj[m]>
How would that manifest?
<tobhe[m]>
gnome about would show llvmpipe as gpu
<tobhe[m]>
looks like we do need a newer one
<tobhe[m]>
I can try building that tomorrow
<john-cabaj[m]>
Should I hold off on copying then?
<tobhe[m]>
actually today but after sleep
<tobhe[m]>
that would be better yeah. because software rendering is also sluggish
<john-cabaj[m]>
Sorry to keep you up

hey guys. is it possible to achieve a ubuntu server install with your distro? Doesn't look like there is an option in the installer, but maybe I could simply remove the desktop packages after a successful install? or do you recommend something else?
<tobhe[m]>
that should work
<tobhe[m]>
server installer images are wip
<smitty>
cool! thanks for confirming. will give it a try this weekend.

<tobhe[m]>
so what you probably want to do is install ubuntu-server and remove ubuntu-desktop

I think it might be time to try using ubuntu-image for the server images
