<jannau>
chadmed_: genkernel looks to me even more annoying for providing a good default config for initramfs modules. --all-initramfs-modules is annoying as well for everything which needs firmware
<jannau>
on the bright note I
<jannau>
finally have an initramfs that unlocks my encrypted "root" partition
<chadmed_>
yeah i'm not really vibing with genkernel, now that we know what was causing the issues im considering going back to dracut for our tooling. i like that you can just dump the config file into /etc/dracut and forget about it
<chadmed_>
it's also very slow
<jannau>
genkernel's speed is ok-ish when doesn't builds the tools included in the initramfs
<rkjnsn>
I switched to dracut on my Gentoo installation a while back and was much happier with it. NixOS's makes it even easier to do weird stuff, though.
<chadmed_>
we were using dracut initially but i thought it was having trouble loading kernel modules properly resulting in unbootable systems
<chadmed_>
the real problem was kmod exploding when built with clang
