jannau: how do you feel about transitioning to sd-boot on gentoo? i set up a new rootfs yesterday with /boot=/efi and its working very well
<chadmed[m]>
i feel like it will be worthwhile even if for no other reason than it doesnt tear down the pretty asahi logo
<cy8aer>
Did you want to contact povik or should I?
<cy8aer>
> Cy8aer: I would write povik about the sound issues you see and ask him, if he has a fix or idea about it.
<cy8aer>
Oups last post for @Glanzmann
<_jannau_>
chadmed[m]: I'm already using sd-boot. is there tooling to create loader entries for our kernel and initramfs images with the version in the name?
<_jannau_>
it renders crap with u-boot's console and I haven't had time to llok into that
<chadmed[m]>
unfortunately i dont think sd-boot ships with anything like grub-mkconfig but i could whip something up at some point
<chadmed[m]>
ah thats a shame, half the reason i want to use it is because im sick of grub tearing down the entire framebuffer lmao
<_jannau_>
it's a line inside the options. it's probably just missing glyph(s) for some unicode codepoints. I'm not sure whether the logo is preserved

cy8aer: Best is you approach povik, because I can't reproduce the issue. Once you resolved the issue, please let me know, so that I can fix it for everyone.
<Glanzmann>
cy8aer: Might be the same problem that mps had, but I think he resolved it already.
<cy8aer>
Ok i just sent a post in #asahi and there was an answer from mps which not really helped: I will respond later - do not have the machine in my hands right now.
<Glanzmann>
Okay, perfect.
<mps>
yes, I got sound on m1pro but still didn't got speakers even with snd-soc-macaudio.please_blow_up_my_speakers=1 kernel cmdline parameter
<mps>
but I want to test it on old m1 mbp
<mps>
will do after lunch
<opticron>
the next couple weeks are certainly going to be exciting for me. all the things I need for daily driver usage are falling into place at the same time and it looks like I'll get GPU around the same time :D
<Glanzmann>
mps: What did you do to get speakers, just compiled the latest asahi tag/tarball?
<Glanzmann>
Because I think we already tried that unsuccesfully.
<mps>
Glanzmann: yes, and added snd-soc-macaudio.please_blow_up_my_speakers=1 to kernel cmdline
<_jannau_>
take the please_blow_up_my_speakers literally
<mps>
yes, I know, I enabled them on m1 mbp long ago
<chadmed[m]>
i have to acquire more machines to do up some FIRs for them now that the kernel driver architecture has settled
<Glanzmann>
mps: But the blow up my spakers should not be necessary for the jack, should it?
<Glanzmann>
Because cy8aer has no jack output/soundcard.
<_jannau_>
jack output/input works with disabled speakers in the devicetree and without please_blow_up_my_speakers
<mps>
Glanzmann: right, jack works fine
<Glanzmann>
Strange, because for cy8aer it does not work.
<mps>
update second stage m1n1?

Gave the new debian kernel a spin, and it works for me, no sound through jack on macbook air m2 though
<jannau>
gunzip -c /proc/config.gz | grep CS42L84
<ashi>
thanks, that seems to be missing
<ashi>
no sorry - is there
<ashi>
and loaded, jack is also detected when I plug in but no audio
