<Ry_Darcy> @Glanzmann In other words, I used your gpu.sh script and I am running with a (XFCE) desktop.

<onethirtyfive> Hey everyone! I hope this is an appropriate place to ask. Thanks to tpw_rules excellent work, I have nixos running fine on my M1 Max MBP. I added rust support (hackily) to kernel build to get asahi gpu drivers, but something related to "of" and "fdt" stuff is failing at boot, right at the top: https://pastebin.com/WPFmGCCV (ctrl+f "EMPHASIS")
<onethirtyfive> If it's at all useful, my fork of tpwrules/nixos-m1 has the rust driver modifications on it. Same name on GH.

<ashi> Glanzmann: did you ever successfully boot the gpu kernel? Or do you have a .deb published? I built the driver with LLVM and rust, also used the gpu-wip branch for m1n1 etc, but got a black screen
<cy8aer> ashi: I guess you need the mesa user space stuff. Otherwise there is nothing which feeds the gpu and the screen stays black.
<ashi> cy8aer: no console?
<cy8aer> you mean directly after starting the kernel?
<ashi> cy8aer: yes exactly
<cy8aer> ok forget the mesa theses...
<ashi> I am aware that I need to build mesa for the next steps, just wanted to see drm/asahi booting
<ashi> And it is an M2 Air, but with latest changes from lina
<cy8aer> But I remember that @Glanzmann himself had problems with the screen output. There was some discussion here or at @asahi...
<cy8aer> Oups I meant #asahi
<cy8aer> ... or #asahi-dev (just let me search)
<ashi> I know the DCP stuff is very new for M2 - but since lina had it working .... ;)
<cy8aer> The discussion was about simpledrm and apple drm. And about swapping to apple drm. I am running the dcp kernel and that ist running with DRM_APPLE and I could bet that this option is set to the gpu kernel too. So it should work... on an m1-pro system (because I have it running on an mbp...)
<cy8aer> Did you try the dcp kernel?
<cy8aer> (so without the gpu stuff) If it is not running as well than apple drm might be the problem.
<ashi> apple drm also did not work, yes
<ashi> I tried jannus patches for m2 dcp and it did not work for me - they are included in linas gpu branch also.
<ashi> what I never understood is why simpledrm -> apple drm -> asahi drm all have to be used and how they work together - I have all tree enabled
<j`ey> apple drm is the display part, framebuffer etc
<j`ey> asahi drm is the actual GPU driver
<j`ey> simpledrm is the boot framebuffer that is used until the GPU/DCP can take over
<ashi> A few days ago apple drm just did not work because it wasnt probed on purpose - then when probing changed and dcp was enabled I got a black screen and probably unrelated to the asahi drm
<ashi> j`ey: thanks
<ashi> (I mean dcp was enabled for *M2*)
<ashi> So, yes, I never got dcp working. thats probably where I am stuck
<ashi> hmmm could it be I need to update my first stage m1n1 or something?
<cy8aer> ahem yes, just do start up the install script on the macOS side again. With version 0.5 you will find an upgrade option (was it "m"?)

<ashi> I will try that now
<ashi> the new option did update my m1n1 1st stage but the problem persists. Anyway, need to sleep, Thank you cy8aer!

<cy8aer> bad news that it is not working...
