I have some funny effect with the notch option. And please do not care about it too much because we know that the actual solution with the notch is not official: There are some applications which start up full screen like ardour. With notch it leaves the notch part off the screen unused (how does ist find out??) but then has problems calculating the width of the screen and renders parts of the window left and right outside the screen. Without notch it...
<cy8aer>
... gets the right coordinates to render all parts of the window. (debian testing, gnome, debian ardour package)
<chadmed_>
"notch enablement" just exposes a rectangular surface that is partially occluded by the notch. afaik we currently dont express the complex geometry of the display yet (e.g. the rounded corners)
<chadmed_>
and even if we did we would probably require userspace changes to compositors et al to deal with such things sanely

Oh, I just expected the whole rectangle would be offered to the compositor (ignoring the notch and the round corners). That is ok. And I can see the size of this rectangle in the monitor settings (some more pixels in height). It should be just a screen like any other for the application just with some pixels more in height? Then it is simply a bug in ardour.

... which might expect some even devisors I guess
<cy8aer>
divisors (sorry)
<chadmed_>
oh im sorry i misread your initial message
<chadmed_>
so ardour cuts the notch off?
<chadmed_>
does it draw a 16:10 rectangle underneath it or is stuff just missing?

ardour renders beneath the panel (which I rendered a bit thicker - 58px or so). The panel is not shown and the side bars of ardour are cut by a third. Unfortunatelly the window cannot be resized to a with inside the desktop when in floating mode. (but it renders 3:2 - mbp14)
<cy8aer>
So the side bars are cut in floating mode too.
<cy8aer>
s/with/width
<cy8aer>
Switching to non-notch: Ardour uses the full screen (including the panel space) and is able to render the full 3:2
<cy8aer>
with both sidebars shown completeley
<cy8aer>
Looks like ardour struggles with the width somehow so that it renders all stuff wider than the real screen width.
<cy8aer>
but the width does not change with notch enabled. It is still 3024
