<ChaosPrincess>
post asahi/installer.log here, it should be on your efi system partition
<ChaosPrincess>
idk where debian mounts it, it but it is usually /boot, /boot/efi, or /efi
<paolo_kuk_>
Thank you; can you please give me a hint what is the easiest way to post the log file from command line? I'm not familiar with the network commands, so I would probably copy it to a usb stick, put it in another computer and so on... :-/ . But it should be somehow possible using irc from CLI... am I right? I'm sorry; I'm not experienced with IRC.
<j`ey>
paolo_kuk_: cat foo | nc termbin.com 9999
Dementor has quit [Ping timeout: 480 seconds]
<j`ey>
(where cat foo is the command to produce the output)
<paolo_kuk_>
Wow, cool stuff; thank you! I suspected there will be an easier way...
<paolo_kuk_>
I've found the file at /boot/efi/asahi/installer.log, it is from September, though. Anyway - it rests at https://termbin.com/v06vz
<paolo_kuk_>
ChaosPrincess: I take it as compliment, thanks... It started suddenly - one day my parents called me that their computer is not working (and described me the CLI they were facing :-))

paolo_kuk_: I think the problem is that you had automated updates enabled and a libunwind from debian was installed.
<paolo_kuk_>
normal Mac mini, no tuning... was working nicely until December
<Glanzmann>
paolo_kuk_: I'll make a you script ready to collect some more data. I have the same but with 16 GB.
<paolo_kuk_>
Thanks a lot, Thomas!
<paolo_kuk_>
I can paste the files (30-modeset.conf) so you know they are correct - but this morning I was doublechecking them to make sure there is no typo...
<paolo_kuk_>
so I don't think there is a problem.
<paolo_kuk_>
I've recently updated the MacOS since you mentioned that you did it and Asahi web said it won't break anything.
<Glanzmann>
paolo_kuk_: I recently also upgraded macos and had no issues afterwards.
<Glanzmann>
as in one week ago.
<Glanzmann>
paolo_kuk_: I sent your script which collects a lot of data and uploads it to pbot.rmdir.de hopefully we can narrow things down.
<Glanzmann>
I'll go to sleep now and look at your output in the morning. You can either send me an email to thomas@glanzmann.de so that I know how to contact your or I just write you in the IRC once I find something.
<Glanzmann>
paolo_kuk_: You could also try the debian asahi live stick and see if you can get X with that.

Oh, I see. I did it; I guess it will be some silly thing... :-)
<paolo_kuk_>
...yes, I didn't try live stick yet; if time allows, I can do that. But again - as I wrote in my lengthy snippet, the GUI started once - so I *know* that it's technically possible and the problem seems to be some kind of (mis)configuration. But I'm not using Linux daily anymore, so my modest know-how keeps fading away...
<paolo_kuk_>
One more bit: when I run "lightdm", it ends (or rather halts) with : process:853): WARNING ...: Failed to open CK session: GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown: The name org.freedesktop.CosoleKit was not provided y any .service files
