LarstiQ: Yes, with xfreerdp. I have the issue both under xorg and wayland (I tried the fedora release). The easiest to reproduce the issue is connect to an windows 2022, open firefox, open hacker news and zoom in and out. Than I have display artefacts.
<Glanzmann>
I tried with and without opengl, both have the issue: xfreerdp +clipboard:use-selection:PRIMARY /u:qskills /p:'user' -grab-keyboard /cert-ignore /f /bpp:32 /v:10.60.2.1 -gfx /rfx
<LarstiQ>
Glanzmann: cheers. It's been a while since I've last used rdp (probably with Remmina?)
<Glanzmann>
IIRC Remmina uses xfreerdp as backend.
<LarstiQ>
yeah I remember soem bugs/incompatibilities that required library upgrades

Glanzmann: please dump a broken session with "/dump:record,xfreerdp_corruption.dump" and upload the dump. you could verify if it reproduces with `/dump:replay,xfreerdp_corruption.dump"

janneg: I can reproduce my issue with the xfreerdp which ships with Debian. But since you wanted the dump and the version in Debian appears to be very old (2.10.0), I had to compile a new version (3.4.1-dev0) which can produce dump. With the new version, I don't see any screen artefacts.
<Glanzmann>
I'll work the rest of the week with this freerdp and see if artefacs pop up, if they do, I do the recording.
<Glanzmann>
So much for Debian. But I also wanted to reproduce with Fedora on the mini m1. However my HDMI constantly turns off. No idea what that is about. So I'll now wipe my Fedora installation (which I did shortly after it was officially released) and try to reinstall and try to reproduce there as well.
<Glanzmann>
I also tried to reproduce with a fedora docker container on Debian ... but that resulted in a segmentation fault during connect ...
<mps_>
Glanzmann: uptime with janneg branch is now 8 days on my m1pro, don't have any issue with it
<Glanzmann>
janneg: Thank you for willing to have a look at that and also for resolving the issue for me by forcing me to compile an up2date version. :-)
<mps_>
though I don't use RDP
<Glanzmann>
mps_: I read the comments from axboe, and than I decided, I do not even try the wip branch.
<Glanzmann>
mps_: It appears that my rdp issues were not related to the dcp driver but due to an outdated version of xfreerdp.
<Glanzmann>
I'll file a bugreport with Debian to bump the version. Because testing and unstable still has a pretty old version.
<mps_>
Glanzmann: aha. Xorg works for me as usual, even running wayland in paralel for testing. all is ok for my usage and tests
mps_ is now known as mps
<janneg>
Glanzmann: 2.10.0 is from Feb 16, 2023. I wouldn't call that very old, certainly not be debian standards. I did not realize that /dump is a new feature (not sure if it is, it's not mentioned in the release notes and I would have expected that it exists as debugging aid)
<Glanzmann>
mps: I have two big showstoppers for wayland: zoom can't record my entire screen and fvwm2. Maybe I could reconfigure another window manager to have my shortcuts. But I'm a fvwm user since 1993.
<n6tadam>
Glanzmann: I can help with fvwm.
<j`ey>
Glanzmann: maybe labwc would be good for you
<mps>
Glanzmann: yes, I remember your persistence with fvwm (which I also used till switched to awesomewm)
<Glanzmann>
n6tadam: Wow. Last time I read up on fvwm2 and wayland, it sounded like its not going to happen.
<n6tadam>
Glanzmann: It can't ever operate like it does now on Wayland until/if reparenting becomes a portal. But I am looking at other possibilities for window decorations which for me, is the biggest barrier to making something fvwm-like.
<Glanzmann>
janneg: I think the dump feature came shortly afterwards. However with the new xfreerdp I can not reproduce the issue.
<Glanzmann>
n6tadam: I see, if you have something, let me know. I'll also check from time to time myself. I'm just reading up on the thread on fvwm@fvwm.org.
<Glanzmann>
janneg: Do you consider your latest wip tree something that is ready for endusers?
<Glanzmann>
janneg: Is there a known issue with hdmi disconnecting on the m1 mini for Fedora/asahi?
<janneg>
the wip branch is not ready. it has broken SPI keyboards for m1* laptops (already fixed but not in that branch) and there's an unresolved issue on macbook pros with hdmi port (possibly only m2 pro/max)
<Glanzmann>
I see, than I'll hold off on that.
<janneg>
no known hdmit issues on m1* desktop devices with asahi-6.6-15
<Glanzmann>
janneg: Strange, I'm currently wiping my fedora install and reinstalling it.
kidplayer666 has quit [Quit: Connection closed for inactivity]
<Glanzmann>
janneg: I think my hdmi issues were self made. Probably one of my children janken the hdmi half out. And than I killed the power during an update and gave it the rest.
<Glanzmann>
.clear
<Glanzmann>
janneg: On Fedora I can no longer reproduce the xfreerdp display artefact issues.
<janneg>
is that with freerdp-2.11.5 on fedora?
<Glanzmann>
janneg: This was with a freshly isntalled but not updated fedora. Now I'm updating and retry.
<Glanzmann>
So with 2.11.2 I can't reproduce, now I'm updating and retry.
<Glanzmann>
What I don't get is that once fedora/asahi was ga, I immediatly tried and could reproduce the issue.
<Glanzmann>
janneg: Can't reprdocue with freerdp-2.11.5 on fedora either. Anyway, I'll work the next two days with it and let you know the results.
