janneg: have you noticed any microstuttering on plasma 6 in your testing?
hdbngr has joined #asahi-dev
<janneg>
chadmed: I see it now (still rc2 from fedora rawhide of a couple of weeks ago), I did not notice it before
<chadmed>
hmm okay. ive unmasked and installed the release version and i notice it on the 15" air but not the studio connected to my 1440p 165hz monitor
<janneg>
it was initially very bad (not micro stuttering) but better after an reboot
<chadmed>
i have no non-apple machines to do isolation testing with though :p

also tried out plasma 6 yesterday, it also felt "off" (i think it is microstuttering) and there were other issues like sddm being broken with kwin_wayland, sddm not loading the breeze theme with x11, and task manager crashing upon right clicking icons

<chadmed>
hm i think the root cause is something else. im definitely syncing at 60 Hz, it just runs like ass
<chadmed>
pacing and stuttering abounds
<chadmed>
pacing issues*
<janneg>
I'm debugging with kwin developers atm. you can try with KWIN_DRM_DISABLE_BUFFER_READABILITY_CHECKS=1 but I think you'll need https://paste.debian.net/1309235/ in addition
<leio>
looks like I can see https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/-/issues/3247 too, just haven't really noticed on anything in practice, which might have more to do with not having steam than it not being a problem
<leio>
the numbers go especially down the drain if I jiggle the mouse around with no hardware cursor plane in use
<chadmed>
janneg: given that patch i wonder if it's related to our iomfb swap being really slow?
<chadmed>
i think ive mentioned before that a similar failure mode can be observed when rapidly changing the brightness
