<marex>
hi, so, I have this scanout engine, mxsfb, wired into DPI-to-DSI-bridge, then DSI-to-LVDS bridge, and then lvds-panel on that end, with pwm_bl
<marex>
now the panel expects panel power to be enabled first, then LVDS data to be present (i.e. image streaming into it), and only then backlight should be enabled
<marex>
the linux kernel drm subsystem does it the other way around it seems
<marex>
i.e. the entire pipeline is inited, and then panel is powered on, backlight is enabled, and only then the scanout engine starts scaning out, so that causes a flicker on the panel
<marex>
is there some way to enable the pwm_bl later, _after_ the scanout engine started scanning out ?
<marex>
I can think of a workaround for that -- set pwm_bl brightness to 0 in kernel and let userspace crank the brightness up, which does work, but it is a workaround

hi, one question about drm commits policy: can I rebase/assign for merging myself, a small bug fix in drm that has one review only?

do shader targets for llvm share some higher level interface for IR ?
<HdkR>
TGSI or NIR is what is used in mesa depending
<HdkR>
Which then usually gets translated to a backend specific IR for each backend
<ZeZu>
that's what I thought, I ran across LunarGLASS and was hoping there was something in between that might allow me to target an IR for multiple archs w.o going through all the abstraction for something like spirv
<ZeZu>
I'm digging through the code for answers but I haven't LLVM much so it's slow
<ZeZu>
s/haven't/haven't used
<HdkR>
TGSI/NIR is effectively just an HLIR with what the backends transform it in to being the MLIR/LLIR
<HdkR>
People going to LLVM IR usually find pain daily :P
<ZeZu>
I'm not really familiar with tgsi, but yeah I know what NIR is in general sense
<ZeZu>
I know what I am after [ usable cross platform/arch MLIR -> LLIR ] is not really a thing, but figured I'd take a look again
<HdkR>
What would then take that LLIR and emit code/shaders though? :)
<ZeZu>
the driver that already does this , I'm probably explaining very poorly
jljusten has joined #dri-devel
<HdkR>
Sounds like you want an IR lower level than spir-v to pass directly to driver?
<HdkR>
But still multiarch
<ZeZu>
yes
<HdkR>
But why? They will still need to go through the full optimization steps which is the slow bit anyway?

A very good point, I'm just looking at my options really and it seems like decoding binary shaders -> internal IR -> emulator logic -> spir-v [HLIR] -> driverIL -> MLIR -> opts -> LLIR -> binary is a lot
