Would anyone mind if I cut a new release (8.5.0, I suppose) of the Mesa Demos repository? It's been a long time since last release (Feb 2018), and a lot of things has changed since then...

There's also been an issue open for a while (6 months) requesting a new release. I've tried to ping the person who cut the last release, but I haven't heard back...

sounds good to me

airlied: Hypothetical question
<alyssa>
If a Gallium driver wanted to use `draw` for geom/tess, but hardware VS otherwise, and hardware rasterization regardless... Is that doable?
<alyssa>
Will transform feedback work?
<alyssa>
(What about `draw` for tess+XFB, but hardware for tess without XFB?)
<alyssa>
Any prior art? How badly will performance suck? Will I regret asking these questions in public? ;)

alyssa: mesa/st uses draw for some stuff, so you can probably copy/paste similar code into your driver
<zmike>
the only real requirement is setting mapped buffers into it
<alyssa>
zmike: noted... I am 0% convinced it's a good idea but I'd like to know why not ;)
<zmike>
I don't know that there's prior art for non-vs usage? that might actually need llvmpipe in full
JohnnyonFlame has quit [Read error: Connection reset by peer]

alyssa: hmm so you'd just use draw is tess/gs were enabled, but you'd use it for all the vertex stages?
<airlied>
r300 was probably the closest in terms of picking when to use draw
<airlied>
but it wasn't runtime dynamic, just hw dependent
<anarsoul>
r300 doesn't have tess/gs, does it?
<mattst88>
no

but yeah doing something like st does, might not be insane to get a proof of concept
* airlied
ponders insane things like doing up to the tessellator on the cpu, then doing the TES on VS hw
<airlied>
still wouldn't solve GS
<airlied>
or doing VS + XFB -> tessellator on CPU -> TES
* airlied
hides

as people are talking about r300: if I see correctly some loops in deqp_gles2 tests are made to be not unrollable, but appendix A in opengles_shading_language.pdf says "In general, control flow is limited to forward branching and to loops where the maximum number of iterations can easily be determined at compile time."
<gawin>
so what to do when fragment shaders of r300 and r400 don't support loops at all?
<gawin>
(I'm guessing it's the same with nv30)
