FWIW, I need to restart the db of gitlab in a couple of minutes. I managed to understand how to do online replication, but I need a small change in the config for that
<pq>
cool :-)

FTR, it was super easy: the bitnami chart has a setting you can use: primary.standby.enabled... but it was quite a journey to get there :)

and here we go, downtime should be ~couple of minutes
<bentiss>
db is back up
<bentiss>
now the various services need to reconnect to it
<bentiss>
forcing them to restart

bentiss: It's all super easy until you actually need to do the failover :)
<bentiss>
DragoonAethis: I simulated one here, and it was relatively easy: pg_ctl promote, then change the config (to be sure, and restart the pods
<bentiss>
even setting the old db as standby replica was simple, just the chart deployment config to be done
<bentiss>
But manybe you're talking about automated failover, in which case, this requires a bunch of other components (that I'm not going to deploy)
<bentiss>
*maybe
<DragoonAethis>
Yeah, I wanted to have a redundant cluster with pgpool and just not having to worry about it, SQL Server-style
<DragoonAethis>
It's a royal pain
