<alanc>
and then go find everywhere else that's broken because of it
<emersion>
why not replace these old URLs below with gitlab URLs?
<emersion>
instead of this temp change
oneeyedalien has quit [Quit: Leaving]
<alanc>
I merged the changes to the xcb repos to use the gitlab urls, but that's in HEAD, and not the existing tags that are being used, so the temp change fixes up the old urls in the existing tags
<alanc>
fun with git submodules
<emersion>
ah
<emersion>
maybe update the submodules then?
<emersion>
push a new stable tag?
<alanc>
the submodule update is what I merged, what I haven't done is make a new stable tag
<alanc>
so I guess my question boils down to, "is this a temporary outage or a permanent change" to decide how much work is worth doing
<emersion>
i don't have plans to investigate this personally

alanc: it’s permanent, yeah. the machine may come back, but PSU (for all I’m extremely grateful for their free service for two decades!) have always had pretty crippling network issues, and maintaining those physical machines is really time-consuming
<daniels>
it’s not practical for us to try to maintain two parallel sets of infrastructure, so one has to go in the long term
<daniels>
there’s no reason for this to be the terminal one - I could just find my laptop and restart molly - but people really do need to change, and it has been announced and signposted since pre-COVID
<daniels>
so if not now, then when

daniels: thanks, I guess I'd forgotten that it was announced so long ago - I've fixed all the git submodules in the libxcb-* repos now, and made new tags for the xserver CI to reference, since it only needs tags, not release tarballs
<alanc>
and I wasn't aware it was actually dual infrastructure and not just an alternate view, though I suppose I should have realized that
<emersion>
thank you
<alanc>
while doing it, I discovered xcb-util-wm had replaced anongit with gitlab in 2020, so someone else was clearly paying more attention than me back then
