<neggles> flashtool is a piece of custom OEM code that attempts to contact a local sophos firewall appliance and requests a reimage
<neggles> it can also talk to their cloud management solution if you have the right dhcp options set
<slh> there are 900-arm-add-cmdline-override.patch and 997-device_tree_cmdline.patch for the more difficult cases
<neggles> yeah
<neggles> overriding does lose the OLD_IMAGE_BOOTED arg passed to init
eduardo010174 has quit [Quit: Leaving]
<neggles> but I packet sniffed the flashtool recovery process and it's quite trivial to emulate, so even if you don't own a cisco console cable you can recover this from a zeroed NAND very easily
<slh> isn't that just important if you want to restore the OEM firmware?
<neggles> you can feed it any FIT image and it'll blindly install it
<slh> if so, add a <10 line script to change /proc/cmdline on the running system
<neggles> oh sorry, i more meant "we can just skip having dual boot probably"
<neggles> it would've been nice to get away with just using bootargs-append. though actually I need to add some custom stuff into /lib/sysupgrade/platform.sh anyway
<neggles> have to set `verify=no` in uboot env for it to boot unsigned images
<neggles> so overwriting bootargs= at the same time would probably be fine?
goliath has quit [Quit: SIGSEGV]
<slh> I think so
goliath has joined #openwrt-devel
<neggles> hmm. if bootargs is unset, and /chosen/ in the DTS has a bootargs = "" in it, will u-boot pass that through unmodified? one way to find out
<neggles> (not an empty one of course)
<neggles> ah, need to check what it does when you hold down the reset button too, it might reset the env
<neggles> it does not! yay!
<neggles> alright, back to working out what I did the other day to trigger the FIT partition parser then

<robimarko> mangix: Wait, it seriously has no cases?
<mangix> Nope
<robimarko> That is like the thing that pisses everybody learning Croatian

<mangix> I think that's every Slavic language, except Bulgarian
<robimarko> Yeah, others are rather similar
<rsalvaterra> I thought Croatian was hard until I got to Russian… :P
<rsalvaterra> At least Croatian uses the Latin alphabet. xD
<robimarko> That is like the only "easy" part if you are already using latin alphabet
<mangix> In terms of difficulty, I think Hungarian and Finnish are the difficult European ones.
<robimarko> Oh yeah
<robimarko> Those seem impossible
<rsalvaterra> Hungarian is just weird. It's a language that has no business being in the middle of Europe. :)

* f00b4r0 is trying to find the correct way to configure a pptp wan
Tapper has joined #openwrt-devel
<stintel> by replacing ISP :P
<jow> usually you need to configure wan to obtain a route towards the pptp server, usually by configuring some kind of local net range, often without default gateway
<jow> then you declare another interface (e.g. wan2) with proto pptp, also part of the wan zone
<f00b4r0> I see. I've found (very old) examples that involve moving the wan interface to the LAN firewall zone, which I'd like to avoid for many reasons
<f00b4r0> most examples seem geared toward setting up VPN, which is not my intent here
<jow> you just need to figure out if the ISP gives you a DHCP lease to configure the routing needed to reach the pptp server or if you need to use a static configuration
<f00b4r0> the latter apparently. This is for someone in Austria
<jow> I don't see any reason to move the "lower" interface to the lan zone
<f00b4r0> no traffic apparently
<jow> maybe it was done by someone who didn't know how to selectively open the fw for pptp specific traffic
<f00b4r0> I can paste the snippet they sent me, moments
<jow> afair you need to allow ingree proto 47 and tcp port 1723
<jow> *ingress
<jow> (47 == gre)
<aparcar> [florian]: do you have any pointers for using the external toolchain?
<aparcar> I couldn't make any progress, some stuff still randomly fails
<f00b4r0> this is what they have. If they don't put the wan iface in LAN zone, they have no internet
<f00b4r0> and that of course sounds very wrong to me
<stintel> I would enable logging for the wan zone and see if anything is being dropped ?
<jow> f00b4r0: sounds as if they forgot to allow inbound gre and tcp 1723
<stintel> that reminds me I should look into fw4 and logging
<f00b4r0> jow: would make sense, they're using the default fw settings AIUI.
<stintel> ah no, zone logging works, nvm
<f00b4r0> I assume these ports must be open on the WAN zone, inbound to the router?
* jow is making progress in the nftables status display
<jow> f00b4r0: yes
<stintel> jow: ah that's awesome!
<f00b4r0> jow: thanks a lot.
<jow> still unpolished and uunfinished
<jow> but that would be the idea of it
<stintel> jow: I think something working would be a first step, people can always contribute changes if they don't like it?
<f00b4r0> and I just noticed I posted pw in that pastebin. Fsck me. Good thing it's set to hidden and will expire
<stintel> heh better change it anyway
<jow> meh, screenshot above was clipped
<jow> the stuff in { ... } is not yet mapped
<aparcar> woah firewalls look hard
<aparcar> jow: thanks for working on it

<aparcar> can anyone explain the "essential" opkg flag?
<mrkiko> f00b4r0: what's the ISP name (if it can be told)
<f00b4r0> mrkiko: dunno. I'm even surprised PPTP is still used anywhere in 2022 :)
<Habbie> pptp to 10.0.0.138 tends to mean that the device at 10.0.0.138 converts pptp to pppoa
<Habbie> 20 years ago all DSL in .nl was like that
<Habbie> before CPEs started doing NAT
<Habbie> (I specifically recognise 10.0.0.138 from 20 years ago)
<f00b4r0> that would make sense, that's an adsl line AIUI
<stintel> heh that 10.0.0.138 sounds familiar :P

<hurricos> Hey, how [could] one add additional apps to OpenWrt's busybox?
<hurricos> Where's that encoded?
ldir has quit [Quit: My MacBook has gone to sleep. ZZZzzz…]
<hurricos> I'm trying to measure how much bigger busybox would be with base64 added to it
<hurricos> potentially not more large than the awk implementation I found for base64 ;^)
<stintel> in make menuconfig ?

<hurricos> Yep, there it is, BUSYBOX_DEFAULT_BASE64.

<rsalvaterra> I wonder if it wouldn't be more adequate something like ip link set <dev> cpu <dev>… I don't know, seeing "link" twice in the same command, with different meanings, doesn't really rub me the right way.

<dangole> rsalvaterra: it's similar for ip link add <dev> link <dev>... for creating e.g. vlan devices... but yes, either way is fine with me, using an new attribute for setting the DSA CPU port is definitely more clear
<rsalvaterra> Yeah, that was my point… but as you said, it's a matter of personal taste. :)
<rsalvaterra> I just have a "think" with overloading in general. xD
<rsalvaterra> *thing
<rsalvaterra> Reusing link most likely won't fly with upstream, from the comments…
