<Justin[m]>
Oh google-sunfish isn't even in pmaports as a device.
<Adrian[m]>
Yeah, currently not. You can build it from our pmaports fork (which will need some reorganizing) at the moment. In the future we want to use a generic device package + u-boot instead, upstreaming sunfish as-is doesn't make a whole ton of sense
<Justin[m]>
Adrian[m]: OK. I know in FOSS ETAs are generally $nochancebro but is there a rough idea?
<Justin[m]>
I have a OP6 which I run pmOS edge + systemd + Plasma Mobile nightly on but I find it's just a chunky heavy device. I want to replace it with something nicer and my Pixel 3a is great but it has a cracked screen and the cost of replacing it is basically the same buying a P4a.
<Justin[m]>
I would just buy a P3a but if I can get a P4a for the same price then I think it's worthwhile. P4a has better specs and better screen to body ratio.
<Adrian[m]>
I wish I could tell you, but this is one of these things where we want to do a lot and have little time on our hands. There's a very outdated and working u-boot which needs rebasing and fixes, then we can look into making the generic device package
<Justin[m]>
Fair call 👍️
<Adrian[m]>
I want to tackle this ASAP because I want to take the same approach for sweet
<Adrian[m]>
But fixing u-boot isn't exactly trivial sometimes
<Justin[m]>
Yeah I understand. I am a sysadmin and the kernel work and lower level boot stuff still makes my head spin. 😁
<Justin[m]>
* am a Linux sysadmin and
<Adrian[m]>
By the way, be aware that sunfish, like all other sm7150 devices, won't have working speakers or cameras for now
<Adrian[m]>
Everything else should easily work as good or better than sargo
<Justin[m]>
Anyone expecting cameras to work on any device has begun with the wrong expectaion 😁
<Adrian[m]>
Adrian[m]: s/speakers/microphones/
<Justin[m]>
I have the two devices cameras somewhat work on, which is OP6 and P3a.
<Adrian[m]>
Well we have two cameras working on davinci, just no camss XD
<Justin[m]>
So no mic means no calls?
<Adrian[m]>
you can make calls but they're functionally useless
<Justin[m]>
Oh OK, might be worth changing that on the Wiki.
<Adrian[m]>
the info in the wiki is correct
<Justin[m]>
Do they work via Bluetooth?
<Adrian[m]>
Bluetooth peripherals work, yes
<Justin[m]>
BT + Calls?
<Adrian[m]>
haven't tested that myself
<Justin[m]>
Hmm OK so maybe a P4a isn't the right choice at the moment.
<Adrian[m]>
it's probably a good choice if you can be a bit patient, but at the moment it's not daily-driveable
<Justin[m]>
I guess my definition of Calls working is you can pick up the phone and make a call without any issues.
<Justin[m]>
* any issues. Which includes being able to hear the other person and talk to them.
<Adrian[m]>
The "Calls" wiki is under "Modem". The modem side of calls is working completely fine, for audio you should check the status of "Audio" in the features table
<Adrian[m]>
* "Calls" wiki section is under
<Justin[m]>
Yeah, I guess what I'm saying is many regular uses will see the "Calls" "work" and then have the wrong expecations.
<Adrian[m]>
Feel free to bikeshed this with the people who maintain the template in the Wiki
