<zookeeper> Hello all. I have a question. I spoke with the devs over at KeePassXC about a feature missing in the app when using Wayland. The feature is Auto-Type feature. I asked them when I could see such feature added in the app and here is the answer. "it requires wayland folks who implement compositors to provide something we can use for auto type, there's nothing in the wayland specification right now in production that we could tap into". My question to
<zookeeper> the Wayland Dev team is. Is this something you are working on for future versions of Wayland?
<zookeeper> Btw, I very much enjoy Wayland in Fedora so thank you to all of you!
<danieldg> zookeeper: https://wayland.app/protocols/text-input-unstable-v3 is what you'd likely use to simulate keyboard input/autotype
<zookeeper> Thank you danieldg
<danieldg> iirc it needs support from both the application in question along with the compositor
<danieldg> https://wayland.app/protocols/input-method-unstable-v1 would actually be used by keepass to interface with it
<danieldg> until then, you would need to use https://wayland.app/protocols/virtual-keyboard-unstable-v1 for the compositors that support it

<zookeeper> danieldg: Thanks for the info. I shared what you wrote with the Dev's of KeePassXC over at Matrix.

<danieldg> zookeeper: you should see which of those protocols are available on various wayland compositors before putting too much effort into supporting them
<danieldg> I think mutter would prefer you use some dbus protocol instead of these, for example

<dominikh> https://wayland.freedesktop.org/docs/html/ch04.html states for new_id that " Generally, the interface used for the new object is inferred from the xml, but in the case where it's not specified, a new_id is preceeded by a string specifying the interface name, and a uint specifying the version. " – is the size of a new_id really dependent on the interface, and the string name/version
<dominikh> aren't always included?
