ChanServ changed the topic of #aarch64-laptops to: Linux support for AArch64 Laptops (Asus NovaGo TP370QL - HP Envy x2 - Lenovo Mixx 630 - Lenovo Yoga C630)
<steev>
qzed: what matrix client do you use?
<HdkR>
=O
<HdkR>
Very cool Lenovo presentation
<steev>
agreed
<steev>
qzed: do we not need the USB power domains always on, on sc8180x? i just noticed the patch for that as well in johan's tree
<steev>
well, i pushed it to mine too, i'm just finally getting around to emails
<qzed>
steev: re matrix: the default (element, I think?)... not really that great, but it does the job
<qzed>
re usb: no idea, I don't think I have those and things work well (or well enough at least)
<steev>
that's fair, i haven't tried the 8180x stuff yet here, i'm dealing with swapping the eMMC between my pinebook and pinebook pro
<steev>
although it looks like for whatever reason i'm getting absolutely horrendous download speeds from my server, so it'll be a few hours
<steev>
davidebeatrici[m]: if you have windows on it still, you should be able to look through c:\windows\system32\driverstore\filerepository\ for *.mbn, bdwlan*, ipa.*, cr*.{tlv,bin}
<davidebeatrici[m]>
I have fully updated Windows 11 on it.
<davidebeatrici[m]>
In the meantime, here are the drivers provided by the manufacturer (extracted from the huge archive).
<steev>
hm, you might need the mcfg stuff, i know that qzed uses those on the surface 8180x
<davidebeatrici[m]>
Consider that so far I only managed to boot the Debian installer.
<davidebeatrici[m]>
The Fedora image only shows an underscore and then reboots.
<davidebeatrici[m]>
OpenMandriva freezes at "Reached target Basic System" and then reboots.
<davidebeatrici[m]>
Fedora not booting could be due to the DTB not being applied, no clue about OpenMandriva.
<davidebeatrici[m]>
The described behavior is with `efi=novamap pd_ignore_unused clk_ignore_unused`.
<clover[m]>
<steevdave[m]> "i went with nheko because i..." <- Spectral was decent

Probably this is brought up here a lot, but searching for this info on the internet doesn't lead to get results; Which best performing aarch64 laptop I could go with if I'm a redhat (-based) die-hard user. Looks like Manjaro is the only viable option in aarch64-land, but just want to make sure.
<HdkR>
I believe every provides AArch64 images that you can build off of. Ubuntu, Debian, Fedora, Arch Arm, etc
<HdkR>
everyone provides*
<jhovold>
steev: thanks for the heads up. I've been fixing regressions in various subsystems after each rebase on -next so far, so perhaps not too surpising...
<mahmoudajawad[m]>
HdkR: was that meant to me? You are right, what I'm asking about is the aarch64 laptop that has best support by any redhat-based distro.

<steev>
i don't use redhat based distros, so i can't say. i'd try in maybe #fedora-arm ?
<steev>
ah right
<steev>
i'm not sure what irc network they are on
<steev>
that was back when we were all on freenode
<Penguinpee>
steev: "i'm not sure what irc network they are on" <-- They are on Libera and mahmoudajawad[m] is on #fedora-arm.
<steev>
ah, spiffy :)
<steev>
dgilmore used to help us out with things at Genesi, that was my only familiarity with redhat type stuff
<Penguinpee>
"spiffy" I had to look that up. How did you know? I'm not sure if Dennis is still around. I do remember the name.
<steev>
he's in the irc channel at least :)
<steev>
spiffy is just what i use in replacement for cool, sometimes

qzed: does video come up reliably for you? on my flex5g it sometimes takes up to 5 reboots to get video to work
Penguinpee has joined #aarch64-laptops
FizzBuzz has joined #aarch64-laptops
<qzed>
well, reliably is not what I'd call it, but it works about 90% of times
<qzed>
so usually one reboot if it happens, I had two at times, but never more than htat
<AlexMarty[m]>
Any of you happen to be at black hat this weekend?
<steev>
i skipped this year (and the last two), but normally i'd be there
<AlexMarty[m]>
Dang. I was hoping to meet some people
<steev>
a bunch of my coworkers will be :)
<AlexMarty[m]>
Well it was mostly so I could get some troubleshooting help with WiFi 😂
<steev>
what are you seeing?
<steev>
it should work "enough" with the hack in place, the ath11k driver doesn't know about the new firmware / format for the ath11k we have in the X13s
<AlexMarty[m]>
It connects then stops connecting then won’t find any networks.
leezu has quit [Ping timeout: 480 seconds]
<steev>
weird, i have not seen that here, anything in dmesg?
<steev>
and is it 2.4 or 5?
<steev>
i know that 5 is rather spotty
<AlexMarty[m]>
It might be 5 I’ll have to check. I’ll look at dmesg here soon
<steev>
5ghz will never show > 30% signal either

<bamse>
steev: any progress on the gpu?
<steev>
bamse: nothing more than before :( as soon as i enable gpu, the mdp goes away
<bamse>
ok
<steev>
i dunno if i've got wrong gpu info or what
<bamse>
i fixed up a few things, so now it probes nicely...and loads the firmware, but then it times out
