<matteo> hi all
<j`ey_> have you tried an external keyboard?
<matteo> yes, with no luck
<mps> matteo: so you can't 'break' u-boot iiuc
<matteo> right
<matteo> can I access the linux fs from macos?
<mps> then I think you can't boot from usb
<matteo> so to change grub default entry
<j`ey_> weird that an external keyboard doesnt work either..
<mps> matteo: I wrote about month or two here how to access linux partition from macos
<matteo> cool
leif has joined #asahi-alt
<mps> but I didn't made guide from writing, for now you can look log of this channel
<leif> matteo: what hardware are you on?
<mps> matteo: sorry, I wrote about accessing linux from macos on #asahi channel
<mps> have to find all this and extract to write simple guide
<jannau> leif: macbook pro 16" (m1 pro), from #asahi
<jannau> matteo: keyboard/trackpad are consistently not working, even after a couple of reboot? keyboard doesn't work in u-boot when it displays "press any key to interrupt auto boot"?
<leif> matteo: can you give us a bit of background. What is the exact Fedora kernel version you're on. Are you on F37 or F38? Was the keyboard working before you installed that kernel?
leif has quit [Quit: Leaving]
<matteo> jannau: even after several reboots
<matteo> leftas: F38, kernel 6.2.something
<matteo> keyboard was working before, I used it for two days
<matteo> then I upgraded to a new kernel, and now it
<matteo> *it's dead
<matteo> mps: can you post the instructions somewhere, like a pastebin for now?
<matteo> I wish to change the grub config
<mps> matteo: first you have to install qemu on macos
<jannau> impossible to debug this without more information but unfortunately I don't see an easy way to provide more information. my best guess would be missing kernel modules
<mps> matteo: then you have to create qemu linux VM with your prefered distro, or download ready made if it exists
<mps> and then you have to add '-drive' parameters to your qemu start/boot scripts
<mps> will try to search my start script and post
<mps> matteo: here is what I added to qemu start script '-drive if=virtio,id=hd1,format=raw,file=/dev/disk0s6', that attach partition 6 from macos
<matteo> ahh ok
<matteo> so you pass the partition as passthrough
<mps> matteo: here is complete start script https://tpaste.us/0lwy ofc it should be updated to you enviroment
<matteo> like guestfish does, more or less
<mps> for example I used alpine linux =alpine-virt-3.17.0-aarch64.iso image as rootfs for qemu
<mps> s/=//
<mps> that way, I boot install iso but don't start installation. mounted macos partition (which is linux FS) and do needed fixes
<mps> and I use pure cli for qemu, not some 'easy to use' layers. pure cli is best imo

<leif> matteo: I'm not sure how to repro an issue for kernel 6.2.something
leif has quit []
<matteo> hi leif
leif has joined #asahi-alt
<matteo> mps: how to get qemu? I need to compile it?
<matteo> or there is some binary somewhere?
<leif> you didn't install the actual (official) Fedora kernel did you?
leif has quit []
<mps> matteo: my knowledge about macos is low. I installed brew and with it I insalled qemu. that is all I can say about this. but probably other people know better
leif has joined #asahi-alt
<matteo> ok
<leif> So the latest F38 kernel is kernel-6.2.6-300.fc38 -- see if that version shows up in your grub menu
leif has quit []
<matteo> I will check on next reboot
j`ey_ is now known as j`ey
leif has joined #asahi-alt
<leif> I'm guessing that's what happened. That would explain your issue. Unless you excluded kernel packages from the Fedora repo, then that kernel would have been installed w/ dnf upgrade (as it would be latest/newest version)

<leif> Yup, that's what happened. You have to be careful about which kernels you decide install. The F38 one is going to track the latest stable kernel (ie 6.2.x) pretty closely. You can easily use Exclude filtering on the F38 repo to prevent that.
<leif> Anyways, were you able to recover your system?
