<chris> Hi all, just wondering if this is the most appropriate channel to ask this or whether there's a more appropriate place. Basically using EXPERT mode to use ALARM to install Gentoo with Asahi. Simple enough, PITA with a lot of steps and takes a long time but simple enough. Only problem is when doing a Gentoo install I'm the sort of guy who just says do this, comes back to it like half an hour or hours later, resumes, maybe turns it off if going to sleep, etc.
<chris> Problem is that I have no idea where to access this live USB that the chadmed script has supposedly created. Can I not literally make a USB so I can resume my Gentoo as and when I want to rather than doing it all in one? As during the install process, the drive contianing the "live USB" boot image is wiped. Would be a life saver to be able to put that on an external USB and resume as and when I want.
<leio> Apple Silicon can't boot a liveUSB in itself, which is why the whole exercise through ALARM in the currently available method
<leio> but I didn't install through that method myself, so not in a good position to comment on the rest
<chris> leio, potential solution is to use ALARM to install to the USB drive and resume a partially done Gentoo solution on the SSD?
<j`ey> I think it would be better to just block out some time and do the install in one go
<j`ey> otherwise youre going to make things more convoluted
<chris> Yeah probably the best option. Will have to set aside an hour or so today if I can find the time

<chadmed> chris: it creates a boot option in grub. you just boot using that option
<chadmed> once you wipe the alarm rootfs, its gone and only lives in memory. you cannot turn the machine off to resume later.
