Theoretically Wayland supports configuration mechanisms other than XKB, but in practice 1) no other format is defined in specification; 2) no compositor supports anything else; 3) most importantly, clients support only XKB

I don't think I understand the question. Are you asking about the VT/Linux console layouts? They can be generated from XKB nowadays. IIRC Debian folks has created a tool other distros use to convert XKB -> console layout.

dottedmag hm that sounds promissing. I never really dealt with the subject because it was simply there... So I need to transform the whole ctrl-super-alt key changing from hid to xkb...
