<jannau> yes, it stops completely. I suspect it's a different cause as well but have not really a good idea what could cause this
<jannau> might be a good opportunity to add tracing to spi hid

<eiln> marcan: PR'd in m1n1
<eiln> also your mastodon post reminded me
<eiln> some hn comment says " Its FP16/Int8 inference only (cause you can only access it via apple frameworks that dosent support training). Also its only used if your data is small enough (4mb cache) it wont be useful for big transformers/ big images processing in a while."
<eiln> lol ive got a 2048x2048 rgb output in front of me
<eiln> it's the opposite case too, large i/o takes advantage of locality
<eiln> coreml would agree with that; there's a size threshold to get compiled on the ane
<eiln> actually the whole point of the compiler is to chuck everything in one go
<eiln> it's so specific it's believable, like gpt speak
<eiln> i clicked on their profile out of fascination and their comment just before that is:
<eiln> "And for local model development you don't need your rig to be powerful as training wont be done on your local machine anyway and MacBooks are good enough for that (a lot better than windows for sure). "
<eiln> lolz i should also get off that site

<rory_be> A bit of an unusual question... does anyone know if Apple bothered to implement big endian mode in their silicon?
<rory_be> I have made big endian ports for several SBCs, and was hoping to use Apple silicon/Asahi to speed builds...
<rory_be> I ported my bootloader and have built the Kernel big endian; my bootloader will load it but the machine just resets itself after 30 seconds...
<rory_be> Unsure whether Asahi is not endian clean, or if Aplle just omitted this.
<rory_be> P.S. Kernel support for rust is totally broken for big endian... had to disable it.
<ChaosPrincess> there is no BE support in m chips
<rory_be> That would explain it! Is that documented somewhere I missed?
leitao has quit [Quit: My MacBook has gone to sleep. ZZZzzz…]
<j`ey_> it will be in the sys regs, not sure if asahi documented it anywhee

<maz> rory_be: the idregs clearly show thaat there is no BE support at all.
<maz> probably something that your bootloader should check.
<rory_be> Thanks! Good suggestion... this is the first arm64 device without be support that I have encountered!
<maz> there is plenty more. non-ARM implementation have made the jump some time ago, together with dropping 32bit.
<rory_be> No doubt... most of the SBCs just use Rockchip/straight ARM reference designs..
<rory_be> Too bad though... the M1 is a monster compared to even the RK3588! Asahi on the M1 is easily 4-5X performance
