<vulpes2> so far a reboot always brings it back but it's kinda spooky when the nvme drive couldn't be mounted all of a sudden

<micsthepick> I'd like to use Notepad++, which I typically use through WINE. The reason I don't want to use a port, is because I use a bunch of the plugins, especially the compare tool, and JS formatter, etc.
<micsthepick> not sure about installing wine, as dnf doesn't list in in the defaults, and I read something to the effect of that Asahi has it's own way of running Windows apps?
<nicolas17> you need wine *and* an x86 emulator
<micsthepick> perhaps, but there also is an aarch version of npp?
<micsthepick> *ARM64 if that means something different
<nicolas17> hmm I never tried that

<lavenderjamie> Hi, I saw the new update for the kernel (v6.14.1) but I can't seem to be able to upgrade to it. DNF says nothing to do and hyfetch returns "6.13.8-400.asahi.fc41.aarch64+16k" for kernel. I'm on a Apple MacBook Pro (16-inch, M2 Max, 2023). Any advice?

<lavenderjamie> @nicolas17 I saw this (https://asahilinux.org/2025/03/progress-report-6-14/) on microphone support-
<lavenderjamie> I assumed that it was that new update-
<chadmed> the kernel version refers to the upstream release. it literally says in that post that our progress report cadence is based on upstream kernel releases.
<chadmed> mics should be working with your current kernel

<fl0_id> are you sure muvm is installed with the correct permissions, and the git version does not have other dependencies? (like othe updated libraries or sth)
<fl0_id> those are some of the usual issues when instaling from source
<fl0_id> pcilib: Cannot open /proc/bus/pci
<fl0_id> f.e. suggests that it could be permission or pcilib version related
johey has joined #asahi
<monstera> if i'm running muvm manually it's working fine, so I don't think it's a dependency issue. and as far as i can tell the pcilib error is normal, i have seen it in other logs. my guess is that it is related to "glXChooseVisual failed"
hdbngr has joined #asahi
<fl0_id> monstera true. based on other posts, could be some incompatibility between steam and graphics drivers. so if you recently upgraded steam or graphics drivers, try downgrading either if possible...
<fl0_id> like if you also have a self-compiled kernel even more so
<monstera> Looks like I can't downgrade steam (dnf says "package is already installed, cannot downgrade it") but the graphics drivers probably did get updated during the upgrade to fedora 42. i will give that a try.
<monstera> this feels like a bit of a dumb question, but what ARE the packages for the graphic drivers on asahi?
<fl0_id> monstera not sure. I think steam you can only downgrade from within steam probably. Like not sure about asahi, but usually the steam package just installs a base that downloads everything else
<fl0_id> (or not at all)

<fl0_id> monthebiff well, afaik dnf still uses rpm package format, should use the same db ( I think ). That said, it can still cause issues, because you are installing a package that lacks dependencies. But you said you just want to install anyway and try to fix it. Alternatively, maybe it is possible to manually install protontricks (from source) into ~/bin or something, which might cause fewer issues and be easier to remove
