<mupuf>
bentiss: thanks for your work!
* bentiss
just hopes it won't start again soonish
<mupuf>
yeah...
<mupuf>
What's the plan to allow genuine people to sign up? I asked a user to create issues in my project, but he cannot sign up.
<mupuf>
Waiting is a perfectly valid answer
<bentiss>
mupuf: if you have the username we can quickly validate the user
<mupuf>
bentiss: oh, that is nice of you to offer!
<mupuf>
The username is `v-a`
<bentiss>
but as emersion mentioned in his reply, I might simply just re-enable free user registration
<bentiss>
mupuf:done
<mupuf>
thanks a lot!
<mupuf>
if you feel like the assault is over, that may be a good plan
<mupuf>
s/assault/attack/ :D
<bentiss>
the mine attack seems OK
<bentiss>
but users like "callgirls24" are still being created :)
<mupuf>
...
* bentiss
wonders if I can not delete all users containing "escort" and "casino"
<emersion>
bentiss: are you sure about CI running in the owner account?
<emersion>
in my experience that';s not the case, the CI runs in the context of the fork
<bentiss>
emersion: it depends if you are known to the project or not
<bentiss>
and if you use MR pipelines (with the "rules:" keyword)
<emersion>
for instance, adding a project-specific runner allows commits in the project's repo to use it, but any MR won't be able to use that runner
<emersion>
"known to the project"?
<emersion>
do you mean member of the org?
<bentiss>
developers/maintainers/owners
<bentiss>
yes
<emersion>
yeah, indeed
<emersion>
but many contributors aren't members
<bentiss>
what we are doing for RHEL kernel on gitlab.com, is that we have pipelines with "rules:", so any MR is executed in the project namespace if the contributor is known
<bentiss>
when an external member submits an MR, the pipeline is executed in a reduced environment but is not using the full infra.
<emersion>
what happens if the contributor isn't a member?
<emersion>
hm
<bentiss>
but if a developer runs the pipeline of the MR, the project runners are used
<emersion>
i wouldn't mind clicking a "approve and run CI" button like i do on github
<emersion>
once per user
<bentiss>
it would be once per MR
<emersion>
but i don't think gitlab has this
<bentiss>
it has :)

<bentiss>
we have 48135 users total, and 42519 have no project or group :)
<bentiss>
32267 users have been inactive in the past 90 days (with or without projects)
<emersion>
i'd like to make sure we're not loosing things like issue comments
<emersion>
some people create an account to report a bug
<bentiss>
yeah, I am not doing anything right now, just looking at the stats
<__tim>
some users may just be subscribed to issues/bugs to watch them
<emersion>
but yeah pretty sure 99% of our users are just spam indeed :(
<bentiss>
I should be able to find the users who just connected once, didn't do any issue/comment, any subscriptions and just set a profile description
<bentiss>
cause these are likely spam IMO
<emersion>
yeah
<emersion>
hopefully they are just automated spam bots so won't notice their profile being deleted
<emersion>
maybe just deactivate the account as a first step, and see if anyone complains?
<emersion>
in case we're missing a use-case
<bentiss>
well, it's harder than it seems (cause I don't know the schema of the db by heart)
<bentiss>
pohly: one of the problem we are having is that we are low on disk on the lists server, so I don't know if this is doable right now
<pohly>
I can export the existing mails that I have. Then we'll know the number of messages and total size. Would that help?
<pohly>
I don't expect many new messages - it's very low volume.

pohly: I personaly don't admin the mailing lists, so I can not be of much help here. sorry :(
<pohly>
daniels wanted to look at it, but I guess he has been too busy.
<emersion>
pohly: how big is the archive?
<emersion>
i'd like to work on setting up mailman3 on a new VM but i don't have a VM to play with :(

<pohly>
emersion: I had to figure out how to export first. I didn't know that "notmuch show" can export directly to mbox (usually don't use it ;-). Anyway, we are talking about less than ~600 mails and 9 MB of mbox data. I probably have some dupes and automated emails in that first search.
<emersion>
oh that should be perfectly fine then
<emersion>
i'm not too sure about the domain setup
<pohly>
That part isn't that important. Those users who sign up with the new list will simply have to remember that the "To" is different.
<pohly>
Would you be able to set up the list? How do I share the mbox file?
<emersion>
MrCooper: can you give me the mailman admin password? i don';t think i have it yet

<emersion>
thx!
<emersion>
pohly: can you upload that mbox somewhere, and give me your email address?
<bentiss>
