keithp: hetzner for instance (because that's the first one I saw that has m1s), but any that lets you run linux and provides "real" access to the hardware would work
<eric_engestrom>
(I think "bare metal" covers that, but I'm not 100% sure on the definition of that term)
<eric_engestrom>
daniels: I was tagging you for the "load" part and dan-vet for the budget part of the question
<MrCooper>
bentiss: ^ any idea who might be able to look into that?
<bentiss>
MrCooper: daniels is likely the person able to kick that server
<MrCooper>
AFAIK he's likely on a beach in France though
<bentiss>
then Mithrandir maybe?
<Mithrandir>
giving it a shove.
<Mithrandir>
MrCooper: should be happier now.
<MrCooper>
it is, thanks!

Not sure if this is the right place to ask, but I have some questions regarding notification handling over DBus
<PMunch>
Specifically I'm trying to write a program that catches notifications
<PMunch>
I think I've got everything set up correctly, I can see notifications caught with notify-send just fine
<PMunch>
But now I want to test closing of notifications. However I'm struggling to generate a valid close notification with the gdbus tool and was wondering if I'm doing something wrong

<emersion>
hrm, gabe is at 100% CPU constantly
<emersion>
i thought at the start that it was catching up with queued emails
<emersion>
but it must be something else
<emersion>
can't find anything useful in logs
<daniels>
nothing in htop?
<emersion>
i also just reproduced the dropped emails issues reported by vsyrjala
<emersion>
htop has many mailman qrunner processes
<emersion>
well i guess it's a good motivation to migrate to the new box
<emersion>
i wonder if it would be better to setup postfix on the new box
<emersion>
hm it seems like we have a bad senderscore.org
<daniels>
yeah, we deliver a gargantuan number of fake subscription requests
<daniels>
they don’t get actioned but …
<daniels>
they’re named after Penny Arcade characters

hm so to migrate we'll somehow need to forward around emails
<daniels>
yeah, I think for now just keep gabe as both inbound and outbound, forwarding as necessary, then switch later?
<daniels>
feel free to pick a different name btw
<emersion>
switched to kira
<daniels>
nice

MrCooper: yes, gabe is experiencing issues :/
<emersion>
and i'm not sure why, maybe related to the fact it's stuck at 100% CPU usage
<emersion>
maybe i should try rebooting it?
<emersion>
i've already tried to restart mailman and postfix
<MrCooper>
FWIW, looks like some old list posts are coming through now

emersion: about those patches, would you mind keeping andré as a co-author at least? credit is always appreciated :)
<emersion>
eric_engestrom: hm, well, i rewrote them from scratch, so i figured that wouldn't be correct
<emersion>
but i don't mind if you think so
<eric_engestrom>
I haven't read the code, but my understanding is that he did the research & first draft of the code
<eric_engestrom>
maybe something like `Original-by: ...` ?
<emersion>
well, Xaver sent a very similar patch as well
jstein_ has joined #freedesktop
<eric_engestrom>
it's a bit like when someone posts a first version of something and goes away, and someone else takes over: even if you end up rewriting a lot, they still should be credited
jstein_ has quit []
<eric_engestrom>
(except today there was no time between the first version and the rewrite)
<eric_engestrom>
it just doesn't feel nice, so I wanted to see if there was a way to not forget about his work :)
<emersion>
okay, i'm not very knowlegeable about this
<emersion>
pushed to the extreme, everyone who's commented in the discussions should be credited
<emersion>
so
<emersion>
should i add a S-o-b or something else?
<eric_engestrom>
which isn't that wrong when you think about it, but some participation are more consequential than others
<eric_engestrom>
yeah s-o-b was what I meant by "co-author"
