<jernej>
I have only one board with such issues and it seems that it works without any workaround on Linux 6.0.
<jernej>
Can anyone confirm that?
<gamiee>
jernej: HI! I had issues on PINE H64, eMMC was working just fine, and after something, it didn't booted anymore. U-boot worked, but something during kernel boot failed.
<jernej>
gamiee: did you use above patch to workaround the issue?

jernej: i had some h6 tv box where this patch was required to make emmc work back then
<gamiee>
jernej: I wasn't aware of this workaround, but I might try it
<jernej>
gamiee: my question is actually opposite - if it's not needed anymore with 6.0. but if you test it, please test it both ways on 6.0 and let me know
<jernej>
hexdump0815: is still needed with 6.0?

jernej: i have no v6.0 kernel yet for the h6 - will test it when i get to it, but might take a bit ... will put it onto my todo list to not forget

<apritzel>
gamiee: since you need to load the SPL from some kind of external storage anyway, that's somewhat naturally also the place to store those settings
<apritzel>
as you said: U-Boot environment

<apritzel>
also eMMCs typically provide some persistent bits, outside of the actual storage
<apritzel>
if you are after a/b boot: eMMCs allow to choose between boot partition 1 and 2, and this setting is persistent
<apritzel>
jernej: so do you think (hope?) that something in 6.0-rc1 fixed the issue, and are thinking about bisecting that?

<karlp>
gamiee: you can find a few little bits tucked away in emmc config words... you can also use the rpsmb stuff on the emmc maybe?
<karlp>
also, youv'e got two special private boot partitions you can stash stuff in...
