<machinehum> General question, is using a WiFi driver as a builtin common/done?
<machinehum> https://pastebin.com/raw/6ZYeCu9J because my WiFi driver is getting probed before the rootfs is mounted causing the driver to fail

<dsimic> to sum it up, it describes a possible solution for such issues, and it would be great if you'd reply to that thread
<dsimic> having the issue you encountered described in that thread could help a lot later, because I intend tu "build a case" that would, hopefully, make my future patches for delayed firmware loading accepted upstream
<dsimic> machinehum: please note that the thread mentions such earlier upstreaming attempts that failed
<dsimic> which is another reason why your response in that thread would be highly valued :)

<machinehum> dsimic: Awesome
<machinehum> What's the gist of your plan so far? I'm curious

<dsimic> the solution is actually rather simple, the kernel function that loads the firmware just needs to return "hey, try later"
DuClare_ has joined #linux-sunxi
<dsimic> I mean, that's the gist of it, but the realt trouble would be to "build a case" that should convince the maintainers that accepts such a change
<dsimic> multiple previous attempts have unfortunately failed, so I plan to build a really good case that would be ironclad :)
<machinehum> CONFIG_EXTRA_FIRMWARE sucks
<dsimic> that's why I'm asking for your input on the ML, to use that while building the case
<apritzel> I guess the solutions needs to be really simple and clean to be accepted
<dsimic> s/realt/real/
<dsimic> true, and it will be extremely simple and clean
<machinehum> Cool yeah I'll shoot off an email, because yeah the only decent solution I have is buliding the driver as a module
<dsimic> I'd really appreciate your input on the ML
<dsimic> and it might actually be very helpful for many people :)
<dsimic> please provide the kernel log as well, directly in your message, which you provided earlier through pastebin.com
<dsimic> (this makes sound like a lawyer, but hey, this is about building a case :)
