<macromorgan>
apritzel: I just feel awkward sending in someone else's work (the ram stuff Jernej did) but it's a pre-requisite
<macromorgan>
I need that and the board splitting stuff for the Pine64/Pinephone, and the AXP717 stuff. All that then I can push my stuff. Assuming I have permission from jernej/jernej_...
<macromorgan>
I was also reading up on RNG stuff... I think for now I'll just update U-Boot to allow setting kaslr-seed with PRNG instead of using the hardware TRNG.
<macromorgan>
otherwise though I can move back to Linux soon and see where we still need work, be it audio stack or elsewhere

<macromorgan>
so I'm confused about the RTC on the H616... which is the correct driver, the one at rtc-sun6i.c or the one at ccu-sun6i-rtc.c?
<macromorgan>
Also, the bindings don't seem to permit using an external 32khz oscilator, but I think I see one on my board anyway... and the registers seem to say I can use an external clock (though I'm looking at the T507 datasheet)
apritzel has joined #linux-sunxi
<apritzel>
macromorgan: please send any patches that you see fit, it's not awkward to send other people's patches, especially if they are not active at the moment
<apritzel>
and I am pretty sure jernej_ has nothing against it. And without them seeing the list I cannot merge them, or comment on them, so any post would be appreciated
<apritzel>
macromorgan: regarding the RTC: for once this device provides a real time clock, which is mildly useful on battery powered devices, I guess. This is covered by rtc-sun6i.c
<apritzel>
but more importantly, on modern Allwinner SoCs the RTC also controls some essential clocks, which many other devices depend on: this is covered by ccu-sun6i-rtc.c
<apritzel>
macromorgan: regarding the missing LOSC in the binding: the H616 data sheet does not show a LOSC pin, and the user manual does not mention it
<apritzel>
but the T507 datasheet and manual does, so I guess in extension the H700
<apritzel>
so we need a patch to extend the binding and optionally allow a LOSC input
<apritzel>
also the AXP717 patches have just hit U-Boot's master branch a few hours ago, so please rebase

apritzel: btw do you know the current consumption of the rtc?
<mwalle>
also.. why can you select the voltage of the internal LDO
<apritzel>
mwalle: power consumption: no clue, the datasheet says: "If you have questions about power consumption parameters, contact Allwinner FAE." ;-)
yang2 has quit []
yang2 has joined #linux-sunxi
<mwalle>
apritzel: haha :p
<apritzel>
mwalle: but it's a separate power supply pin for the RTC on the SoC, and the PMICs also supply this special rail in power-off mode, so you can really just run the RTC and nothing else
<mwalle>
apritzel: do you connect it to the VCC-RTC or the RTC-VIO ?
<mwalle>
because the RTC-VIO seems to be the output of the internal LDO, where you can select the voltage.. for whatever reason
<apritzel>
mwalle: which SoC are you talking about, exactly? The internal LDO is only on the D1/T113s3, right?
<mwalle>
apritzel: v3s
<mwalle>
register 0x190 of the rtc controls the LDO voltage
<mwalle>
default voltage is 1V1
yang2 has quit []
yang2 has joined #linux-sunxi
<apritzel>
I have no idea what this LDO is for, I guess some customer asked AW about it, and they added it, because it was needed in some special use case and wanted to save a few pennies
<mwalle>
also the v1s seem to have the internal rtc bypass switch (which is undocumented) so i guess the v8 rtc should set .has_auto_swt
vagrantc has quit [Ping timeout: 480 seconds]
<mwalle>
apritzel: well it generates the internal RTC-VIO which is at least used for the RTC and its nvmem registers
<mwalle>
although at least the nvmem register will only hold their values if RTC-VIO is greater than or equal to 1.0V.. but you can set the voltage to 0.7V.. uhm *gg
<apritzel>
yeah, but maybe someone needed it for something when the system is powered off (PMIC off, just RTC voltage supplied), so they made it available externally
<mwalle>
they have an external pin for the decoupling C
<mwalle>
anyway I'm off for now
<apritzel>
mwalle: it is not generally recommended to try finding some sense in Allwinner's decisions ;-)
<mwalle>
apritzel: yeah i can imagine
<mwalle>
but for that price tag, that soc isn't that bad
<apritzel>
following the idea of "it needs to be cheap" often leads to some explanations
<apritzel>
yeah, the three Allwinner advantages: it's cheap, doesn't cost much, it's not expensive
<mwalle>
well and some ppl got some proper upstream support :)
