<f00b4r0> Mangix: can you elaborate?
<Mangix> ?
<f00b4r0> <Mangix> f00b4r0: I would not backport that
<Mangix> it's not a bugfix of any kind
<f00b4r0> it's a huge performance boost
<f00b4r0> it certainly looks desirable to have in the next release (vs the one that might come in X years)
<f00b4r0> and the change is "relatively" minimal
danitool has joined #openwrt-devel
<Mangix> it's a performance boost for WAN > LAN and a decrease for LAN > LAN
<f00b4r0> err, no?
<f00b4r0> previously the second gmac was unused.
<Mangix> yeah and now LAN to LAN traffic must go through the CPU
<f00b4r0> what?
<f00b4r0> the change hooks the wan port to the cpu
<f00b4r0> the lan ports are untouched?
<Mangix> not quite. let me find the post.
<f00b4r0> but anyway, if that change was undesired it shouldn't have been merged at all. Since it's been I assume the benefits > inconvenients and thus it seems to make sense to have that in the release, no?
<f00b4r0> Mangix: yes and? The patch (afaict) applies to devices where the wan port could be connected to the CPU. arinc9 is describing what happens when the lan0 port is the affected port

<f00b4r0> there's one PR that would probably be useful somewhere between .0 and .1: https://github.com/openwrt/openwrt/pull/9911
<f00b4r0> I'd suggest merging in master now, letting it live there for a while and then backport. Without it it's essentially impossible to install 22.03

<\x> Mangix: i do have experience on that 2 Gbps patch with using the wan port as a lan port
<\x> br-lan ( wan, lan1, lan2, lan3, lan4), any traffic from/to wan to from lan1/lan2/lan3/lan4 has to pass through the cpu, thats how it works on my WR1200JS
<\x> as for me, i just rolled back to 21.xx as im using my wr1200JS as a managed switch anyway ;)

<hurricos> Hey all. RE tagging 22.03.0, once Pali Rohar ACKs it, would you please merge https://github.com/openwrt/openwrt/pull/10554 into openwrt-22.03?
<hurricos> openwrt-adm is probably a better place for it.
<hurricos> I want to make sure it doesn't get missed though, as it's an unhandled sysfs path change introduced with ... well, the next kernel bump
<hurricos> I'm assuming we're using >=5.10.138 for 22.03.0?
<hurricos> I might be assuming wrong
<hurricos> Yes, as of 89956c6532 ("kernel: bump 5.10 to 5.10.138")
