<tobhe[m]> I do not have a good answer to this because it depends on applications you have installed and probably how much RAM is available in the first place
<tobhe[m]> i know this is sometimes used as a metric for "lightweightness" of their OS/desktop
<tobhe[m]> overall it isn't a very effective measure. an efficient system will try to maximize use of available resources, there is no benefit in not using memory that is available
<tobhe[m]> it is only under memory pressure where you should feel the difference and that is hard to benchmark

<coffeejack[m]> Have any CPU benchmarks been run yet to compare M1 with macOS vs Asahi? Curious the differences
<tobhe[m]> I myself haven't but i remember seeing some people post comparisons when asahi was relatively new. If anyone has newer results I'd also be interested

<coffeejack[m]> Also if you know how to do encrypted root out of the box- curious
<tobhe[m]> Ah sorry, I was a little preoccupied with the Ubuntu Summit this weekend
<tobhe[m]> i'm afraid there is no simple way
<tobhe[m]> there are a few blogs online about booting from usb and bootstrapping your own cryptsetup, i guess that would work
<tobhe[m]> and then you can copy in your ubuntu installation

<al_> Hi, I wanted to ask if I can install and run this distro on an external drive, and not on internal drive of my Mac? The installer only suggests installing it on the internal drive

<tobhe[m]> Hope you are reading the backlog: external installations are sadly not possible
