I do not have a good answer to this because it depends on applications you have installed and probably how much RAM is available in the first place
<tobhe[m]>
i know this is sometimes used as a metric for "lightweightness" of their OS/desktop
<tobhe[m]>
overall it isn't a very effective measure. an efficient system will try to maximize use of available resources, there is no benefit in not using memory that is available
<tobhe[m]>
it is only under memory pressure where you should feel the difference and that is hard to benchmark

Have any CPU benchmarks been run yet to compare M1 with macOS vs Asahi? Curious the differences
<tobhe[m]>
I myself haven't but i remember seeing some people post comparisons when asahi was relatively new. If anyone has newer results I'd also be interested

Also if you know how to do encrypted root out of the box- curious

Ah sorry, I was a little preoccupied with the Ubuntu Summit this weekend
<tobhe[m]>
i'm afraid there is no simple way
<tobhe[m]>
there are a few blogs online about booting from usb and bootstrapping your own cryptsetup, i guess that would work
<tobhe[m]>
and then you can copy in your ubuntu installation

Hi, I wanted to ask if I can install and run this distro on an external drive, and not on internal drive of my Mac? The installer only suggests installing it on the internal drive

Hope you are reading the backlog: external installations are sadly not possible
