daniels, since trimming down Weston's desktop-shell features has started, what's the plan if people want new features? And how's lua-shell coming?
<pq>
other desktop-shell features to remove: the black-shaded active window switching, and virtual desktops?

pq: I don't mind if people want new features as long as they aren't making the spaghetti worse. I'd be totally fine with binning black-shading switching if it's janky or removing it helps simplify the logic. workspaces can definitely go.
<daniels>
re lua-shell, not had a good timeslot to sit down and make it coherent yet :(
<pq>
is it possible to add anything into desktop-shell without making the spaghetti worse? :-)

pq: right now, no, but I can imagine a future where it might be
<daniels>
but it's built on such shaky foundations that I would very much like to pare it down to something workable before anyone thinks about building it back up
<pq>
agreed
<daniels>
(and a lot of that complexity was built to show off what Wayland can do ... I think we've proven that point by now)
<pq>
oh no, are my rotated windows going next? :-D
<pq>
that reminds me, that could use a screenshot test
<daniels>
urgh

<pq>
it would test all the fun clipping code we have in both renderers
<daniels>
non-axis-aligned is going to hurt on screenshot tests though ...
<pq>
we'll see how much it needs to bump the fuzz we already have between pixman and GL results.
<pq>
so far for all tests that can run on both renderers, the pixman result was taken as the reference
