<robher> alyssa: Only a hunch that I will be at some point. Unless krzk steals it from me. My only interest is having an external display...

<sven> I “just” want thunderbolt so that I can use my dock :<
<kettenis_> I don't get *any* response from the SMC after upgrading the primary macOS to 12.6.1
<kettenis_> guess it is time to bring out m1n1 on this machine
<sven> huh. that sounds weird. I’d expect smc to be fully backwards compatible
<sven> so I guess we still do something slightly different when talking to it :/
<kettenis_> m1n1 can bring it up, although experiments/smc.py does manage to provoke a crash
<kettenis_> so it must be my code in OpenBSD
<jannau> kettenis_: linux driver had issues with ventura, shmem setup at startup was wrong
<kettenis_> not getting that far
<kettenis_> no response at all after I send the initial IOP power state message
<sven> didn’t one coprocessor need a special message that would break the others? or was that for shutdown?
<jannau> the linux driver doesn't do anything unexpected at startup
<jannau> which powerstate does the openbsd driver use? 0x20 or 0x220?
<sven> jannau: can you paste the exact location you put the prints for the atcphy issue?
<jannau> at the begin of the functions in general
<jannau> kettenis_: m1n1 and the linux driver (after merging dcp) are using 0x220
<sven> jannau: okay, so it looks like for some reason the power off callback is never called from the phy core
<sven> just to confirm, this is the latest asahi-wip?
<sven> it looks like there’s an imbalanced call to phy_power_on somewhere
<jannau> sigh, xfwm4 with compositing enabled needs vblank interrupts
<sven> and xhci did shut down just before, didn’t it?
<jannau> sven: yes, based on asahi-6.1-rc5-11
<kettenis_> jannau: yes, and it doesn't seem to make a difference
<sven> can you paste the entire dmesg since boot with those prints?
<jannau> the two things I can do to dcp to not power up (wrong power state or messed up dart mappings) doesn't apply for smc
<jannau> sven: one moment
lamlam has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
<sven> I suspect that somehow m1n1 in device mode triggers an additional phy_power_on that’s not matched with a phy_power_off fwiw
<jannau> sigh, I trigger the poweroff switch way too often when inserting usb-c cables in the front
<jannau> not reproducible anymore
millenialhacker has joined #asahi-dev
<sven> huh
<sven> maybe it was just the usb curse then
<jannau> I changed atc from module to built-in to make sure the trace events are enabled from the start
millenialhacker has quit [Ping timeout: 480 seconds]
<jannau> sven: after a little playing around: https://www.jannau.net/asahi/atc_phy.log atcphy build as module so missing tracing during boot. warning occured during powering off the connected mac mini
<sven> looks it sees unplug/plug/unplug very quickly there
<sven> 404
<jannau> that is booting with the mac mini connected and powered on. powering the mac mini off starting at 13:52:26
<sven> yeah, looks like a very quick unplug/plug/unplug cycle that the mini somehow does triggers it
<sven> I bet a role switch event gets lost

<Dcow> is reboot should take a long time on j316cap? looks like it waiting till watchdog don't kill it, like 30s or so
<Dcow> kernel from asahi-dev, both -edge or regular
<Dcow> also, primary macOS is Ventura/13
<Dcow> it feels like regression, because the first reboot after installing asahi was quick IIRC, using kernel from image.
