sven, any interest in a Thunderbolt hub (multiple downstream ports) to test with? OWC's is on sale for $99 through tomorrow, and I'd be happy to contribute one to the cause.

<sven>
is that a “true” usb4 hub? you’d also have to ship it to .de and I’d probably have to pay import taxes on it so that might just not be worth the effort
<ChaosPrincess>
You got both tb3 and usb4 working, right?
<bluetail12>
thunderbolt is intel only, isnt it?
<sven>
I think usb4 works but I only have tb1 and half-broken tb3 devices here
<ChaosPrincess>
No, tb was made by intel+apple, and tb3 and up even some amd boards had it
<sven>
tb4 is usb4 with some required features and certification
<rkjnsn_>
It clams to be true USB4, backward compatible with both Thunderbolt 3 and USB 2/3.

Looks like $20 shipping to Germany. Don't have experience with import taxes, but I imagine you're right, there.
<rkjnsn_>
But they'll ship to Germany directly so I wouldn't have to reship it, at least.
<sven>
it’s usually ~20% and then the shipping company will try to essentially scam me in addition to that for “automated import and customs processing” so it’s probably not worth the hassle. but thanks for the offer!
<rkjnsn_>
The shipping company in this case would be the postal service, though it looks like they also have an option to send it via UPS with the taxes prepaid.
<jannau>
seems to roughly end up at the same same price you would pay if the dock is bought directly in germany

<rkjnsn_>
Looks like about €200 to order it from amazon.de, so still saving $50 even with the import-taxes-included shipping option. But I also have a vested interest such a Thunderbolt 4 hub working, hence my desire to contribute one.
<rkjnsn_>
(Me ordering it from OWC with their current sale and having them ship it to Germany with taxes prepaid saves $50 over ordering it from Amazon.de, I mean.)
<jannau>
amazon.de sells it for €164 but with 14 days lead time
<rkjnsn_>
Oh, huh. Wonder why it was showing me €198.90. If I go into the other buying options, I do see that price.

sven: let me know if you'd like me to try my OWCTB3ENVXP00 disk enclosure, or if you'd like to use it for testing yourself.
<sven>
sure, I’ll ping you once I cleaned this up a bit more. that enclosure sounds like a good test to see if we get a decent speed on the bus
<sven>
ohhh… looks like Linux also has support for interdomain connections
<sven>
I guess I can also see if I can convince my Mac mini running Linux and my air running macOS to establish a connection
