bentiss: are there stats on what akismet *actually* filters for us? because the spam logs are just false positives so I'm wondering if anything gets caught or if all this is just to keep us busy?

whot: no ideas TBH. But AFAICT, we have 2 spams systems: akismet and spamcheck. Spamcheck is easier to get the logs as we host it locally. Akismet, no idea, I'm not the one who set it in place

so verilog works so, that there are ports and instances, and bus access is done by continuous assignments and bocking and on-blocking assignments

in other words, there is nothing to block the reads from the bus, if clockdomain is screwed

bentiss: do you know if we can at least tweak it in any way? It seems like nobody knows and atm it seems to cause more damage than it's helping, so maybe we should just disable it
<karolherbst>
but keep the stuff so we can quickly enable it
<whot>
turns out there's a setting for that: Allow possible spam
<whot>
Only log Akismet verdict, do not prevent issue or snippet creation when spam is detected.y
<whot>
so I guess toggling that would be the easy way because it can e checked again quickly. might be worth doring on a day where we can monitor closely to hit the breaks
<bentiss>
karolherbst, whot: yeah, my main concern is that I have no time to dedicate to spam right now. So if we have volunteers to monitor it, they can disable it, but I'm not opening the can of worms
<karolherbst>
what can of worms though?

<karolherbst>
there is no spam in the logs afaik
<whot>
karolherbst: aiui the spam logs are just "possible spam", not "definitely spam", i.e. we don't know what percentage of messages are filtered
<karolherbst>
the issue isn't that we sometimes filter out user submission, the problem is, it's almost never spam there
<karolherbst>
whot: ohh...
<karolherbst>
can we accept all possible spam then?
<karolherbst>
and keep definite spam being blocked?
<whot>
yes, but that depends what that magic checkbox does
<karolherbst>
only one way to find out....
<whot>
if it's a "allow everything" that's bad, if it's "allow what would otherwise be in the spam logs", that's good
<karolherbst>
yeah..
<karolherbst>
maybe there are some docs on that?
<karolherbst>
but anyway, I can keep an eye on gitlab reports if that helps (I'll have to do it anyway now...)
<karolherbst>
sure the log doesn't contain everything?
<karolherbst>
well.. worst case we do it for a week and see how it goes..
<bentiss>
FWIW< maybe the problem is not akismet but spamcheck
<karolherbst>
but I'm also not a big fan of "helping out AI companies for free"
<karolherbst>
mhhh

alatiera: is there something wrong with gstreamer CI? your pipeline and the one from philn are taking all of the available slots for the past ~20 minutes (and your pipeline was created ~1 hour ago)
<alatiera>
bentiss: my pipeline is pulling a new image, all the jobs are waiting on the same pull
<alatiera>
philn should get through
<bentiss>
might be a runner issue actually...
<alatiera>
let me cancel some of the jobs, already did cancellel all the non-linux ones but I can kill a couple more
<alatiera>
sorry for the disruption, I usually build images at idle hours
<alatiera>
bentiss: btw I think the reason my image took so much time to pull wasn't the network but most likely unzipping it
swatish2 has quit [Ping timeout: 480 seconds]
<alatiera>
cause it's only double the size of the normal one, but once decompressed it's like 4-6x
* alatiera
will chop things from it
<bentiss>
well, it also very well be that the runners were overloaded by other workload

<DavidHeidelberg>
eric_engestrom: what I was thinking, if I could connect few (~ 4 or 6) slow 1 core runners, they could work if everything else would be overloaded at this point, but they shouldn't be picked if anything more powerful is available
<DavidHeidelberg>
what I noticed by playing with ci-templates, if I run mesa/mesa pipeline, not even ci-templates sanity job will start for few minutes
<DavidHeidelberg>
second thing we could probably mark clang-format/spellcheck/codecheck/sanity jobs with some tag, which would indicate it can run on machines useless for compilation (limited 1-2 cores with slow IO etc.)
<whot>
DavidHeidelberg: looks like youre' missing the actual jobs to build it, look for the {{distribution}}:{{versions[0]}}@container-build@x86_64 in src/distribution-template-ci.tmpl around line 181, those are sets hardcoded for x86 and aarch only and you'd need to add 386 and armv7 for it
<whot>
arguably this should be a loop feeding off an arches variable somewere
<DavidHeidelberg>
whot: thank you, I'll look into it tomorrow ! :) too late here already
<whot>
yeah, that problem happens to me too most days :)
