looking at past requests, mostly already-established projects have been applying, so I'm not feeling less confident about this application

I'm really excited to start filling out a public presence for this project, so if I'm barking up the wrong tree, I'd be grateful if someone told me
<emersion>
as an alternative, it's possible to just host it under your personal namespace
<emersion>
that's what happens for many projects, e.g. libdisplay-info or color-and-hdr
<dcz_>
I tried that, but that doesn't give me pages
<dcz_>
having nice docs is a big part of the reason I even started the project

Hi! my team is owning ML (i915-ci-infra) which is as name suggests i915 specific, I would like to create new ML that will not have misleading name. How can I do that?
<dcz_>
I was told I need to find a project that's willing to take responsibility for me, so I just opted for a new one
<dcz_>
but if anyone wants to offer me that, sure :)
<karolherbst>
yeah... that's kinda a chicken and egg problem here
<karolherbst>
I think what you are planning to do is indeed desktop related and freedesktop is a great fit, but I'm also not deep enough in this area. Maybe somebody which uses libcamera and might consider switching or experimenting with yours would be a good person for this?
<dcz_>
I guess I could ask about overlap between libcamera and freedesktop, but I'm not sure if I can count on this unless I show something of the project in public
<dcz_>
karolherbst: does it mean I have to find a reviewer who knows the subject area?
<karolherbst>
there are no formal requirements
<karolherbst>
just it might be easier for people familiar with the technical space to ack it or so
<karolherbst>
from my pov I can't really tell if it's a good or not a good idea
<karolherbst>
and our CI system is already overloaded as it is
<karolherbst>
but I also don't want to gakekeep personally
<karolherbst>
and I wouldn't be surprised if others are in a similar position
<dcz_>
thanks - I'll ask around and if I don't make progress in a week I'll go somewhere else
<karolherbst>
worst case you just use gitlab.com or so
<karolherbst>
or codeberg or any other
<dcz_>
yeah I have an account on gitlab but I think fdo conveys the extra status that might help with getting interest :)
<dcz_>
by the way, how do external contributions to personal projects work? Are there any restrictions apart from the CI thing?
<dcz_>
maybe I could sidestep the problem by setting up my own runner
<alanc>
I understand why user profiles are private by default, but it makes it hard to consider requests to join a group like xorg when you can't just click on their profile to see what they've done
<alanc>
(though to be fair, I ignore most such requests if I don't immediately recognize the name)
