<NekoMay> MoeIcenowy: I also noticed that OpenC906 is a particular configuration of the commercial C906 core; nothing in OpenC906 is configurable, but if you look at the commercial C906 manual, it has a bunch of options (cache size, for example)
<NekoMay> I believe the OpenC910 core is the same (I've not looked at the E cores yet)

<MoeIcenowy> NekoMay: all open Thead cores are preconfigured
gnarface has quit [Quit: Leaving]
<NekoMay> Would be nice to have the configuration options but it's still more than, say, ARM, at least.

<MoeIcenowy> NekoMay: BTW I think ARM cores provided by DesignStart is preconfigured too, and they're not under a free license

<NekoMay> Yeah, that's what I mean, they're ahead of ARM even without the configuration
<NekoMay> But that's because ARM doesn't give you the source code, you just get a binary blob

<apritzel> NekoMay: but that's only the theory, isn't it? In practice this source code doesn't help you the slightest if Allwinner screws up the integration (and you can't realistically send a fixed version to TSMC)
macromorgan has joined #linux-sunxi
<NekoMay> Oh, I was a bit off topic and wasn't referring to the D1, sorry
<NekoMay> I was only referring to the C906 core itself
JohnDoe_71Rus has joined #linux-sunxi
<apritzel> well, same issue, isn't it? You have the source, but apart from a slow FPGA implementation, maybe, that doesn't really help you to get a nice chip
cnxsoft has quit []
<MoeIcenowy> NekoMay: for Cortex-M0/M3 I think you got synthesizable RTL, not only blob

<apritzel> MoeIcenowy: do you know if the A133 is just an improved version of the A100?
<apritzel> any mentioning of A100 seemed to have vanished from AW's website ...

<ndufresne> hmm, PowerVR GPU, that is an interesting move, how well supported is that on Linux these days?
<ndufresne> jernej: I wonder if the move to PowerVR on A1XX does not imply a move to Imagination CODEC
<ndufresne> hopefully not ;-D
<jernej> I don't think so
<jernej> anyway, AW releases SoCs with PowerVR GPUs now and then, but they are generally not popular with hobbyist
<jernej> I have A83t, but GPU driver is the only missing thing to make LibreELEC release for it :)
<gamiee> maybe powervr IP Core is cheaper
apritzel has joined #linux-sunxi
<gamiee> that's why they use it often maybe
<jernej> well, mali400 was extremely popular with AW
<jernej> more than PowerVR
<jernej> but I believe A83t and especially A80 SoCs were attempts at creating high end SoC, so maybe they got cheaper PowerVR license for better capabilities?

<gamiee> jernej: can be, but for example, Rockchip uses PowerVR instead of Mali in some more low-cost SoCs
<gamiee> low-end*
<valdikss> I guess rockchip has a modern mali core, not 400
<anarsoul> valdikss: yes, high-end SoCs
<anarsoul> but e.g. rk3328 still uses mali-450 which is essentially mali-400 on steroids :)
