<NekoMay> Is the display stuff in the D1 wildly different from their ARM stuff? I'd have thought they'd just use the same old IP blocks for everything.
<NekoMay> (It's all marked "NO" in the support chart)

<MoeIcenowy> NekoMay: base support is a mess now

<NekoMay> MoeIcenowy: Eeep. What happened?

<smaeul> NekoMay: it is probably quite similar, but I have no experience with the display engine, so I am not working on it at the moment
<smaeul> and I believe the DE33 on H616 is still WIP as well
<NekoMay> Ah, bummer
<smaeul> but I guess I was not consistent because I left camera as unknown, and I'm not working on that either
<apritzel> I guess this table is just to note *that* someone is working on a feature, it's not comprehensive about the negative cases
<smaeul> yes, and other people are welcome to mark D1 features as WIP too ;-)
<smaeul> I tried to get the table closer to accurate, but there are definitely still WIP things I missed, and unknowns that should be N/As
<smaeul> eventually I would like to have the patchsets sorted by IP block, and each WIP cell a link to the respective section
<smaeul> because right now it's hard to tell which features are WIP right now, and which have patches on the ML for years
<smaeul> also on my wiki wishlist :) I would like to see https://linux-sunxi.org/Used_IP_cores expanded out to current SoCs and filled in with Kconfig symbols
<smaeul> so we know which compatibles belong in each driver, and which drivers are needed for a specific SoC
<apritzel> smaeul: is that sustainable? Shouldn't there be instructions to find this out a given kernel tree instead?
<mripard> smaeul: you probably want to have a look at scripts/dt_to_config :)
<smaeul> ahh, good to know, but that only works once the compatible and DT are upstream :)
<mripard> scripts/dtc/dt_to_config actually
<mripard> but yeah, indeed
<mripard> it should cover the large majority of compatibles and symbols already though
<smaeul> apritzel: I want to know "what is the Kconfig symbol for v3 of the PWM IP block?" since the name of the driver may have nothing to do with the name of the SoC
<smaeul> the old "do I need sun4i-foo, sun6i-foo, sun8i-foo, sun50i-foo, or sun50i-bar-foo"?
<smaeul> and also which SoCs have that version of the IP block
<smaeul> so when writing the driver I can add the right "original" compatible string
<apritzel> I see, if it's for those fallback compatible strings, it probably makes sense
<smaeul> for example, D1 has a revamped I2C block with hardware sequencing. but then I notice that R329 also has that feature.... but then I notice V536 also has that feature.... so it really should be sun8i-v536-i2c or something
<gamiee> Does V5 have it?
<smaeul> good question :)

<smaeul> btw the F133 (aka D1s) datasheet/manual are available here: https://whycan.com/t_6440.html
<smaeul> only difference I noticed besides blocks being taken out is GPADC went from 2 channels to 1

<jernej> smaeul: NekoMay: D1 uses DE2, which is well supported in mailine
<jernej> however, usually some small adjustments are needed per SoCs, so that's main reason why it's marked as "NO"
<jernej> by adjustments I mean configuration
<jernej> smaeul: do you by any chance know if someone is working on audio hub driver? H616 has I2S support only through audio hub and that's main blocker for HDMI audio

<jernej> smaeul: NekoMay: it seems that D1 uses new custom HDMI PHY, which would need some work to support it on mainline...
<jernej> interesting that they went with DE2 and HDMI2
<jernej> DE2 is natural fit to HDM 1.4, while DE3+ with HDMI2
